Default Strange noise at betwenn 2900-3000 RPM's. No IDEA!!

I have had the car in the air and everything and ca't seem to find where this vibration comes from. It happens right at or right before 3000 RPM's. Sounds like a heat shield but it is not.

I am not sure where it could be rattling from. The whole exhaust seems to be fine.

Any suggestions would help.

Do u got a header? If so u might wanna check and see if all the bolts are TIGHT. that can be an annoying rattling

Stock header and the plate that protects it is off. Was making noise while on too.

Don't know about an engine mount but it only seems to happen when I hold the RPM's there or decellerate in that range.

I have the same problem!! I have weird vibration noises. How do you tell if a mount is bad? Can you tell by looking?

Damn glad I ain't the only one. Mine happens while moving AND at a stop. Not sure if a mount could make a metal clattering noise?

You guys having this problem,do you have true cat back exhaust, or a custom bent job? Seems a lot of the custom bents ones people have trouble making and they rattle in that rpm range. Just a thought from some of the problems my customers have mentioned.

I had the same problem.

Take a rubber mallet and safely tap your 'cat convt.' and if you here like a thing rattling in there is a good chance your 'cat convt' is shot. I have an apexi n1 catback on my 92 si hatch and I'am putting a header on next week and replacing my stock cat with either a hi flo cat or test pipe.I'm sure this should fix my problem

Hope you figure it out

I had and have this problem, it was cause a hole in the exhaust began to form. The vibrations from the hole made all kinds of wierd sounds.

One day when im rich ill get a new heaer, cat and exhaust and it will be gone haha.

hmm maybe ill check my cat. i have a stock exhaust so i dont know why this is happening. i think this calls for open header all the time .

anybody else know what would cause a wierd grinding / rattling noise at 3000rpm?

if you guys have this rattle and it not a heatsheild this is what it is. FROM 2500 3500 WHEN REVING AND LET THE RPM DROP YOU HERE A RATTLE SOMETING THAT SOUNDS LIKE TWO HOLLOW CAN RUBBING THAT YOUR A PIPE THE ONE RIGHT AFTER THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND RIGHT BEFORE THE CAT. IT'S RATTLING INTERNAL NOTHING YOU CAN DO BUT TO REPLACE WITHA NEW ONE OR AFTERMARKET HEADER.

i just had the same problem.. dont know how hard you looked at your exhaust.. but check out all the welds that run along it..start from the top where the engine is and look all the way down..
mine was in the middle of my car.. it was a bracket that held up the piping. it split and would rattle like crazy..just got it welded back together and its fine now... but yeah check all brackets or "resting spots" for the piping and youll prolly find your problem. haha ill try to take a pic if i can ...

I just kept banging the **** out of the exhaust in hopes of hearing anything but nothing so far. I think a high-flow cat is in order anyway.
