Default b16a2 or b18c1

Lately i have been struggling with a question of what motor swap i want in my car. I have a 95 eg coupe and i have been thinking of either a b16a2 or a b18c1. This car will be an everyday driver but i will want to kill a mustang every now and then. I dont really plan to be hardcore with tuning but i want to be fairly fast....basically i want to be able to beat those damn mustang gt drivers. I was just wondering if a b16a2 would be able to do this with a few of the basic bolt ons (intake, headers, exhaust). Also if i get the b16, should i get LSD? I found a b16a2 non lsd on password JDM for about $1800 so im leaning towards the b16. I would also like to know if one of the engines is more reliable than the other. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

If you want to be able to compete with mustangs, you're probably gonna want the slightly higher displacement of the b18c.

I agree with tegbuilder, get the B18C and you won't be sorry. Starting off with solid platform will be better for you in the long run.

sheesh, no one said to get the b16, they said b18c. you seem like you already have your mind made up to save a few bucks and buy the b16. b16's can make power dont get me wrong, but in the long wrong youll be much better off with the b18c.

I see you're not paying attention to the comments huh? b16 is good but b18c is better. there I started another b16 vs. b18c war again.

I originally wanted a b16 then realized the lack of torque I'll be dealing with. that's why I went and got the b18c instead. btw I already test drove a b16 hb and b18c hb and hand downs the b18c rules! just my .02

Just wait till the spring, have fun beating the sh*t out of your stock motor this winter. Then get the B18C.

if you're going to keep saving 'till christmas to get $1800 for a swap, you may want to re-think the whole b-series thing all together. i'm just wrapping up a b16a1 swap in a crx. sure, the engine only cost 1500 (shipped to nebraska), but i'm over $5000 in after all the parts i needed. do your research now before you're in over your head.

i went up tp the partstrader.com place and talked to the guy about different swaps and he said i could get a b16 COMPLETE swap for 2200 and instal for 550, making the total come out to $2750.....so how is yours up at $5000? thats freakin expensive. do u like your swap though?.

Haven't fired it up yet; I'm still waiting on a couple of parts. I bought the CRX just for the swap, so I needed to rebuild the suspension, exhaust, etc. as well as buy custom mounts, axles, and linkage from HASport... not necessarily the cheapest, but I'm a rookie. However, think about things like if you want to replace the belt and water pump. Does 550 include all the hoses and wiring you'll need? I don't know what you've already got in your ride, but I didn't do the research until after I had the car sitting in my driveway, and a lot of stuff has really jumped out at me. When i finally got the engine, It came without the bottom half of the header. Chalk up another 280 for the header... now I find out I need to pay someone to put 2 bungs in it for the O2 sensors. It all adds up.

i dunno he said COMPLETE swap and that he could do it in 2days and have everything up and running ready to go so it sounds like it includes everything....im kinda thinkin about an h22 now though bc the only reason i never considered it before was bc i didnt think u could have a/c with it but the guy told me he did a couple of eg h22's and just cut out a little space for the a/c to sit.........i know an h22 would be killing people left and right dragging.....just im not exactly sure how bad the handling is once i have that huge a** motor in there........but anyways im sure you have already come to the assumption that i am indecisive so i think for christmas i will just start buying my exhaust system, short shifter, racing seats and simple stuff like that and wait till spring to get my swap...that way i will have had a while to think and save.

http://www.cnsmotors.com

Only people I could find on google that had one in stock. 1200 for the engine/tranny (non-LSD)/ecu (PR3), 225 for shipping + 100 because i had it shipped to a residence. Haven't fired it up, but the people I've dealt with were great.
