Default I need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 99 Civic EX with a d16y8. Lat year I spun a lower rod bearing. I took the engine out rebuilt it with .040 bore and now it is acting up agian. It is sputering and sometimes backfireering. I hooked up a snap on scan tool to it and it is throwing a code for the vtech and for a knock sensor. but I was told that there is not a knock sensor in the d series engine????
I am thinking about getting a b16a engine and swaping it out but I am not able to find a usdm. All that I can find is jdm and I was told that the reason for there being so many jdm's is that they have emission problem that is why you see them with 30,000 miles on them the are always taken out over in Japan! WHERE CAN I FIND AN ENGINE THAT WILL PLUG AND PLAY?

the only reason JDM motors are always listed at 30k-40k miles is cause of the smog purposes over there. In the US we need to smog our cars, in Japan they dont need to. Im assumming they replace their engine's every 30k-40k miles. Thats why we have so many quantities of JDM motor here in the US.

You are also right about the civic motors. They do not come with knock sensors, not that I know of about the d16y8. But I know that the d16z's doesnt come with knock sensors. Maybe it's because of installation on the rob bearings and so forth. Check your rods also to see if they are slighty bent.

Go to Hmotorsonline.com and talk to Steve.

D16Y8 (which you have), B16A2, JDM OBD2 B16, B16B, and B18C5 will be plug and play.

The 96-00 D16Y8 SOHC VTEC motors have a knock sensor.
