Does it engage normally in the first 2 gears or the other gears?? If so, I'd be willing to bet that it is working normally, and you have a SOHC, where VTEC is hard to hear/feel.

Possibly that is where you are making peak power (6k). Other than that, as long as you aernt getting any codes, VTEC is engaging properly in the other gears, your car is warm and you have good oil pressure, I would bet that your VTEC is working just fine.

I have a SOHC and i can hear and feel VTEC kick in at 5600 even though its not near as loud or a kick in the *** like my friends GS-R...you still notice when its in or not, i guess it might be in your tranny or else your vtec solenoid (i guess thats where it'd be im just taking a stab in the dark, cause i know vtec runs off of oil pressure; so maybe its not reading it right or something) but i do know that my peak power is between 6000 and 6500...but ive never heard of vtec kicking in that late, well i hope you get it worked out and post what the problem was so if i ever run into this i can be sure f what to do
good luck
