a few months ago my friend blew his motor in his 91 ls... he went to a well known shop in town and decided on a b20 swap... they ended up charging him $2500 and all they did was basically swap in a block and head... everything else was from his stock motor... when he got it back it ran crappy until about 3k rpm and then was fine... anything under 3k and it would stumble really bad... he took it back to the shop and they said every car does that and he was just driving it wrong... i knew that was total bs but he believed the guy due to their "well known name"... next his tranny was grinding 2nd and 3rd and wouldnt go into 5th at all and on top of that the clutch was slipping... so he opted to get a b16 tranny and an act stage 2 clutch... $1600 later he got that back and the car still ran like crap in low rpms and i personally found 3 bolts loose where the tranny mounts to the block... he took it back and the guy said it was cause he raced too much which he hadnt raced at all since the tranny swap cause he was breaking his clutch in... the guy tightened the bolts... while inspecting the tranny he "realized" that the reason it ran crappy was because of the intake manifold... so my friend gives the guy the ok to swap in the CORRECT intake manifold which he should have given him from the start...while changing out the IM he comes back and says the dizzy is bad so he fixes that too!... well now the car runs perfectly smooth... i thought they all ran like **** according to the guys statement but now it runs fine... huuuffff whatever... well the car is smooth now but when you step on it the torque mysteriously disapeared... now the guy says he needs to get this... PUT IT ON A DYNO!... he says it will tell him everything thats wrong with the car and HOW to fix it... he also says he will sell him a chipped b20 ecu installed for $250... shouldnt he have included the correct ecu to begin with... doesnt this guy sound like hes basically ******* my friend all over the place... he has spent nearly 6 grand on this motor/tranny swap so far and hes still getting spanked by everyone... another friends nearly bone stock 92 vx hatch can almost take him if that tells you anything... theres still a few things ive probably left out since its like a freaking soap opera... my question is, is there anything you can think of that would rob the torque like it did... could it be the ecu?... injectors?... im just getting so confused... one part is from an ls and another from a crv... so i say about 10 grand later he ought to have a COMPLETE b20 swap... writing this is just getting me more and more pissed so ill stop rambling ... any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

 

possibly the ECU since that is what the shop is recommending. It's a scam. They purposly leave **** off then charge you to fix it, when it should've been done in the first place.

 

my advice would be to talk to the owner or manager there personally and tell him the story ...theres not much advice anyone can give on this since he already paid for everything and its already been done...

what he SHOULD have done was rebuild his motor (as long as the long block was in good shape) and turboed it..this all could have been done for under 6k most likely.

 

damn thats a rip and a half..i paid $2100 for my JDM B20 swap and thats w/ everything including a JDM B16 tranny w/ honda lsd..I would definitely get a hold of the manager or owner and get some **** straightened out...if that doesnt work..maybe some legal leverage would be good..

 

yeah thats just crazy specially for a b20 i would go up there and slap the **** out of this guy and then i would take my **** to a different shop . so were did he go i only know of like 3 import shops in the dallas area redline imports jotech and well i cant remember the last one but anywayz i would just stop dealing with that shop and take the car somwhere else..

 

do a compression test to see what the numbers are. what kind of manifold was on there in the first place? and what kind of distributor was on there? i dont know what other distributor or intake manifold wouldve fit but the LS ones. the ls ecu should run fine witha b20 motor as it did in mine when i had one.

Definitely find another shop if you are unable to do the swap yourself..a lot of problems between my friends and shops have led all of us to learn and work on our own cars...The only shop out in Garland I know of is Jotech, some other local dallas shops are Alamo autosports is in Arlington (good shop, wont screw you over), VSV (not sure if they are still open, heard they were going under), Concept Racing (pretty good shop w/ good prices)...i just got my B20 in my car..wasnt that hard really, it was only me there too..hope you fix the problem and get some compensation out of it..

hey wat gsronthebottle wat do you think of youre b20 wat car did you put it in i debatting on wether or not to put in a b18b or a b20 just looking for opinions and i will be running nitrous...

 

neither of them can handle a lot of nitrous..I just got it in my 97 Integra yesterday and havent ran it yet..I'm trying to kill some time til my GSR clip gets here..I'm not going to run more than a 50 shot on the b20

yeah ive pretty much taken all of your advice already... i told him that he was being scammed, told him to rebuild it and go turbo, get a lawyer, or dont ever go back but he wont listen... im at the point now where i dont even care im just gonna let him do whatever... and for you guys around here the guys name is no other than philip from intercrew ... i think he knows what hes doing nontheless it just seems like someone might get a good deal but then there comes a time where he royally rips someone off as in my friends case

 

call the better bis bueru, file a clame and bring that clame with you to his shop that should scare him in to doing something. if that dont work tell him your dad is a cop and hes heard some stuff about stolen parts going in and out of that guys shop, that will scare him

 

Give the B.B.B. a call, they love to hear about these things...
