Default motor oil in my tranny - what to do?

thanks to max ha racing, he put motor oil in my transmission

I was initally convinced that it's okay per his suggestion and I quote, "honda tranny are designed to run with motor oil..."

well I just read something about NOT doing that

I called dealer and they quoted 62$ for the honda MTF drain and refill. They said they don't do flush because it's not recommended. I was going to do it myself but I found out that I don't have the tools to remove either the drain or refill plug.

What kind of damage am I looking at? Should I go to the dealer?

no signifcant damage will occur it's ok.

However the equivlant weight in the motor oil that should be used is 10W30 or 10W40. (non snythetic)

Otherwise use Honda MTF or GM Synchromesh.

Why not go pick up a 14mm wrench or whatever and do it yourself?

I've read threads saying it was ok and that it wasnt ok to put motor oil in the tranny. You could just buy the MTF, drain the oil, and replace it with MTF. With the necessary tools, the job takes 15 mins.

As far as damage is concerned, I personally don't know what motor oil in the tranny could cause.

I wouldnt bother changing it. it runs just as good with motor oil. as long as you have 5w or 10w30. I had 10w30 in my tranny for over a year and a half. then swithced to Honda MTF and really couldnt tell a difference in shifting.

really?

because when I am in 1 gear, it has this funny noise when I let go of the clutch while applying a little gas. It's not a grind and I don't know what it could be. No problem even when rev up to red line, just that funny noise at about 2k rpm (sometimes)

i had honda MTF put in after i bought my car with 59k.

Last week i checked the levels and i was running a bit low so i added 10W30 in to top it off. The Honda MTF has additives which will help but its better to some oil in it than no oil at all.

I'd suggest the Honda MTF if you can get it but motor oil with the correct weight will serve its purpose just fine as well.

Probably because I'm assuming that he doesn't have a jack and two sets of jackstands.
