Default Need Help with Piston Choice for LS/VTEC (N/A)

okay, i've been trying to build this ls/vtec for a little while now, and taking my time in deciding what to buy for the right combination. i am using a std bore b18b block and a b16a head that hasn't been milled or ported. the head will remain stock for the time being. with the block, i have opted to use eagle rods.

i have been looking into the wiseco and cp pistons for my all motor buildup. the car will be occassionally street driven on pump gas (92+), but is not my daily driver. I want a 12.5:1+ CR with the intent that in the future, I will be installing a set of Jun type 3 cams with head package. So, I need it to be safe now and later. If anyone has any valuable info for me, with regards to reliability, personal experience with either piston, etc. please feel free to post here. thanks.

CP pistons are good........

CTR pistons will yield a 11:97 Compression on stock B18b Block & B16a head with oem head gasket..... CTR pistons are the best bang for the buck IMO...

I plan on using the CTR pistons with a slightly milled head and a 2-layer headgasket.

Hmm...If you want a compress ratio that high why not use ctr pistons a thinner head gasket and skunk2 high compression valves along with a reworked valve train. In my opinion I think going all honda parts is another great way for all motor also cause honda does make reliable parts.

I also got an ls/vtec setup fully built from ground up but I choose to limit my compression ratio to 12:1 cuz of the daily driven factor. If I choose to run a higher compression set up I would have to run on racing fuel everyone which definitely would burn a hole in my pocket. But everyone is different so if you plan on running a setup of higher CR for daily driven use cheers bro.

Another option to Jun type 3 are Toda spec C cams which in my opinion I think is better.

i originally planned on going the ctr route but have since changed my mind. i even bought some je's with an 11.2:1 cr but i want higher. i don't want to have to worry about the piston clearance issue with the ctr's so i prefer an aftermarket piston that is lighter and has a flatter dome.

I have .25 over usdm ITR pistons in my decked ls block and milled .030 b16 head. I'm right around 12.1... Still need better fuel management, timing dialed in at 16 deg and no pinging under heavy load...

btw, he cant use CTR pistons without ditching the eagle rods.

These are my first time using these pistons, Wisecos quality looks to be really good, and they are pretty light pistons. Build up should be done in about 1 1/2 months.

true but why spend that much cash to modify a good aftermarket rod? i can use the stock ls rods but i have chosen not to. i don't want to have to pull any pistons out later on cause i'm not satisfied with the CR. i just want to install some cams a little later and be happy with the setup.

anyone got any other info on these two aftermarket pistons?

Just had a LS/VTEC put together with JDM Type R Pistons and used the stock ls rods machined to fit (cost $65). The pistons were .025 over bore. I am runing it with a stock gsr head/intake/cam setup. The compression is approx 11.6: 1. The car has a Hondata (untuned) and a cheap DC ceramic header with stock exhaust. I spanked the crap out of an identical Integra with a full JDM ITR motor/ tranny swap and Mugen Header/ Exhaust. I have a modified LS tranny with GSR 1-4 gears and a GSR final drive. The beauty of using oem parts is that my engine builder said that everything fit like a glove. We left the rev limiter at 8400 so there is no need for rods or valvetrain mods.

ok, not trying to be rude, but i am NOT interested in using oem parts. i know that the quality and fitment are perfect, i have no doubt about that. i want aftermarket only.

so only info about cp or wiseco's are needed. thanks.

im also gona use those pistons but on a b18c1 block and either ITR rods or my stock rods...your c/r sounds about right though, im expecting to get the same c/r if not the same just a little bit higher (milled head)
