Best head package for gsr - daily driver - responses MORE than welcome. - not past 8.5k
I am looking for a head package for a GSR - will most likely change out the IM in favor of a skunk2.
I am not looking to rev past 8.5k - even though i know you dont make peak power in some packages til 9+. Im just not comfortable revving that high unless i do block work.
Also if stated a good head package possibly reccomend piston/rod combo ? My buddy had ls vtec with gsr head on a 30k shave. The shave probably caused this but when we took apart his engine we found out that his valves were hittin the pistons - exhaust side = I BELIEVE. heh. Stuff like that can hinder performance and that was an oem head, i just dont want an aftermarket head internals to make those valve bitchslap the piston
I just want to build something reliable(hah, no pun) and I am looking for advice.
I did search, been looking at the available packages in the archived content.
Daily driver = enjoys coming out of turns + hoping for low 14's/mid 14's the worst possible option. heh. Something with good respsonse, not looking for 700whp here. hehe.
Its a 96 GSR also. Any insight is welcome.

any of the stage1 cam setups with an ITR/Portflow valvetrain would be an improvement at low cost. the thing you should look into along with a hea dpackage is hondata setups and dynotuning by an experienced honda / hondata tuner. the hondata alone might make more power than a stage 1 cam upgrade on a GSR motor. I chose skunk2 stage 1 and also installed jdm itr pistons to up the compression to over 11:1 and the car rips, untuned, I cant wait to get it on a dyno with Hondata capabilities
there are guys that have put stage2 and beyond (Jun3's, TodaC's, etc) on stock bottom end motors with only upgrading the valvetrain to match the cams and they have haad pretty good results too, but they dont come cheap and definitely require tuning and wont see huge gains without a change to higher compression
