This may sound dumb, but I was just curious if I were to take off the valve cover to get a look indside, will pressure be lost inside? Would it be safe to just take it off and put it back on?

 

no pressure would be lost or anything, BUT since ur taking the valve cover off, change the valve cover gasket

Yes, 'twould be the safe thing to do. How many miles since the last gasket change?

 

how many miles is it recomended to chang the gasket

I'm not exactly sure. Bought the car used. It currently has about 28K on the clock.

You are supposed to change it every 15K when you get a valve adjustment done. If you have never changed it it will not kill you, but the valve adjustment probably needs to be done on it......hance it will get changed...

In other words, there is no interval for changing a VC gasket, but there is for a valve adjustment, and the gasket gets changed at that time.
