what is the best camshaft for an internally stock H22A? planning on running all motor. some say Skunk2 stage 1 cams. anyone have input? remember, internally stock.

Yeah I would get skunk2 stage 1 for what you want to do with your setup. I plan on running Juns in my motor that I"m building up over the winter, but the price is killing me.

If I could do it again I would still have got the stage 2's. Just for the fact that it made power @ higher Rpm. That alone seems to have made the difference to me.

 

i was told before that the skunk2 stage2 cams don't have the specs they advertise.They are very close to type s cams.

 

I made 200 whp on a stock JDM bottom end with the Crower Stage 2's. They seem to work nicely.

 

remember, i am gonna use stock internals. would it be safe if i used Skunk2 stage-2 cams with stock internals? what about Type-S cams?

No, skunk2 stage cams have crazy lift and duration with stock compression you will make very little power and be very pissed off.

Crower Stage 2 cams are probably the best bang for the buck cam. If you don't go past stock redline I believe you don't have to upgrade the valvetrain either.

I have Stage 3 which is like JUN III and it's good but not an internally stock cam by any means.

Skunk2 Stage 2's. Do it once and get it over with. You won't loose power and you'll thank yourself later.

 

if i ran Skunk2 stage-2s, would i still be safe with a stock valvetrain? i am not planning on upgrading my valvetrain, and i want to be safe.

 

No. The are pretty aggressive. Valvetrain upgrade needed.

 

If you don't want to upgrade the springs or retainers, you'd have to go with Gude cams or the Type-S cams.

 

Yea i would go with skunk valve train and Stage 2 cams. there was a guy who pulled off 193 whp, and 150ish tq. This was with stock bottom end.

 

i think i know that guy......lol. shitty header, stock IM, realtively stock comp., and high intake temp numbers contributed to my low numbers....but overall im happy with how the car runs.

for a motor with stock internals, i would go with H22 Type-S cams. very reliable.

 

i have never seen a stock internal'd h22 do well with skunk2 stage 2's. i have seen good results from crower 2's and jun3's. or you can wait for the ef1 h22 cams to come out.
