This information is not something you have to disclose, like a wreck or salvage but it depends on how old the car is.
Say, if I were to buy a 1991 MR2 with 180k miles...I would prefer to buy one with a rebuilt at 150k miles.

Personally I'm always a little skeptical about cars with "rebuilt" motors because you never know the quality of the work, the extent of the rebuild, and what caused to have to be rebuilt in the first place. In my experience, cars with rebuilt motors do not pull any more $$$ when they sell than cars with original motors.

Document EVERYTHING. Keep every receipt, take pictures, etc.

Depends who the buyer is. Someone may take it as there was or is something wrong with the car. Another person may not even car. And another one may actually think it raises the value of the car. Its all in who your buyer is.

I feel the same way.

Oh yeah, as for wrech and salvage title, you might as well tell the buyer because the Pink Slip will say if the car's title is salvage or not. Don't want to **** off a buyer at the last moment when you pull out the pinks slip and ready to transfer the title and let them find out the car was salvage.

probably a good idea for you. but not giving out the heads up to someone buying your means you really don't care where and who's hands your car ends up in. It may not be important to you. I know that not just anybody would buy my car off me if I ever was offered a ridiculous amount and couldn't take it. I would make sure this person wasn't an ******* that didn't give a **** and wanted to be a rich punk and beat the **** out of what was once my pride and joy. you may want to think about telling the person how much the rebuilt head helped you out. people looking for cars like an honest person that isn't trying to hide something. ...but if it works for you...then here ya go

When I sold my si, i needed to rebuild the block because i was boosting on it. Did a entire rebuild, EVERYTHING, used ctr pistons .25mm over, machined the b16 rods to fit. The shop warranties it for 12k miles, I paid good money for it, drove it for a while, broke it in properly.
I had nothing to hide to the buyer, and it was the first thing i told everyone who called/came to look. Some people were skeptical and I think it kept me from selling the car right away. If it is done right with a warranty though, why not tell the buyer??
I'd say its bullshit if you didn't.

no, i would definately tell the buyer. i guess the problem is the buyer doenst really know if its a quality rebuild or a 1/2 *** job. what i was wanting to find out is, say the car is worth 8k with 100k miles on it or what not and then i go and invest 1500 dollars to rebuild it, if it doesnt raise the value of the car at all then thats money down the drain, but if i spent 3000 for a brand new shortblock from factory and the car goes up in value it almost seems like a smarter investment. know what i'm getting at???

yeah i get what you are saying. definetly DO NOT buy a new shortblock. it's unneccessary. just get off the shelf honda pistons .25mm over to freshen up the bore and make sure you go to a reputable honda/acura service place that knows what they are doing, are well recognized, get detailed receipts of all the work done and they should give you a warranty. do new bearings, pumps, everything.

I realise what you are saying and i would want to know if an engine in a car i was interested in was re-built before i bought it. My rebuild cost me approx $1300 and comprised of, new oil&comp rings/valve seals/cam seals/plug seals/every 'O'ring/seal in the head/timing belt/water pump/head gasket/inlet&outlet manifold gaskets/valve cover gasket and i also have the valves re-ground and a very mild port/polish job done. It was done professionally by professional engine builders (they build rally car engines) and i only used OE parts, i have every receipt and detailed bill on what was done. The engine is basically like new and it shouldnt, but possibly would put a potential buyer off when i'm selling it. When i left the car in for the work to be carried out, the guy doing the work rang me a day or two later and told me everything that needed doing and gave me approx price for labour and parts, he also offered me a JDM B18C with 50k miles (verified) and guaranteed for 6 months for $800 fitted, but i opted to spend the extra $$$s on the rebuild as the same thing could have happened to that engine within a year, at least i knew mine was being done right and i had a 3 month warranty on the work carried out. At the moment i have no plans on selling my car, and maybe when i do if i find it hard to sell, i will show/tell potential buyers the work that has been carried out plus all receipts etc etc if i thought it would grab a sale. its entirely up to you on whether you want to inform a potential buyer, theres no obligation on you to do that.

wow that seems pretty inexpensive, i was quoted around the same price but without a timing belt and waterpump. i was told 700 for the labor + parts, is that a good price? this is from a reputable shop that was recomended to me.
