Pros/Cons of Integra LS with b16 tranny and lightened flywheel
I am getting a b16 5 speed for my stock ls. I know the gas mileage will go down, and rpm's will go up (disadvantage for hwy driving), but my main question is how much would it benefit me to go ahead and get an aftermarket flywheel (8.5 or 8.8) lbs? what are the pros and cons of that? How well would it work with my motor and the b16, what kind of quickness gains should i expect? any info is greatly greatly appreciated b/c i need to make the decision on the flywheel asap!.... also can you reccommend a brand of flywheel? I want to stay with a stock clutch, or at least one that feels close to stock, nothing that disengages really harshly....any help????
anyone? just want to know if its worth the 220$ or so to get a prolite flywheel, or something like that. I know the lighter ones help you build rpms quicker, but would i need that with a b16 tranny that already rev's faster? would it help me out any on the power? thanks in advance
well a definate con is highway driving, when cruising at 80 i'm at 4500rpms with m y si tran, also you would loose top end, youd probably top out around 125-130ish? that may not matter to you though. but you'll definatly enjoy going through the gears faster.
try driving on the freeway in 4th. give u an idea of how its gonna be with the b16 tranny. I wouldn't do it unless i had a fully built ls bottom end with lighter internals and fully balanced. the ls motor doesn't have the smoothness that a b16 does and u'll definately feel it cruising at 4500rpms
i dont see anything wrong with a lightened flywheel. It will rev up nicely, and the b16 is a rev happy motor. I remember reading somwhere for every pound taken off the flywheel equals about 10pounds in weight reduction. So a 8lb fly would roughly be equivalent to 100lbs in weight reduction.

whered u read that bunch of crock? the only thing a lighter flywheel does is bring ure rpms down quicker to the rpm ure supposed to be at when shifting. gas milage will also be determined on throttle position not just the rpm ure sitting at wen freeway driving.
ACT Prolite in my Ls =
