Hey- I'm using a B16 tranny with my Ls/Vtec setup. Using the shorter gearing of a B16 tranny with my setup has been awesome. Acceleration is greatly improved...feels like I added tons of horsepower. The gears are really quite short and are comparable (if not the same) as a Type R tranny. Driving on the freeway, however, I do run at around 4k-4250rpm while travelling at 80mph. It sounds like my engine is working harder, but if a Type R can handle it, I think my Ls/Vtec or your LS setup can as well. The only thing you may want to upgrade is the differential. The stock B16 diff is pretty weak, and switching to an diff will strengthen everything.

If you ARE going turbo, you may want to stay with your LS tranny. The longer gears combined with the turbo power will work well. Going N/A, you want quick revs to get higher in the powerband. Going turbo you want to somewhat draw out your revs and take full advantage of your power. Just food for thought. Hope it helps.

What you said is primarily true, but the LS tranny + boost thing is a myth. Shorter gearing is always better for acceleration. Always. It doesn't matter if you're NA or FI.

I haven't upgraded my differential yet, but I may switch to a Quafe (i believe that's how you spell it) differential. They're strong 's that are widely used with performance Honda's/Acura's. As for the entire "using LS tranny when you turbo"...I really don't know if it works better. All I do know though, is that an aquaintance of mine was interested in using my LS tranny with his turbo'd GSR motor in his '95 Civic instead of te GSR tranny he had. Any truth to the question of whether or not to use longer hears when you turbo?

b16 will hurt your gas mileage... It will be better in a street race.
