I just bought a tizight @s$ sol with a carbon fiber hood and i don't want it to fade or become dull.... What can I and can't I use on it... Cause' one of my friends had a carbon hood and he sprayed some meguiars stuff on it and wiped it off and then wallah it was dull.... I just wanna make sure that it stays shiney... Also what can i put on it to make it shinier.... Tia
i still had my hood for 3 months and its still bling bling, dontt use soap on your hood, just water, and i use gold glass meguirs wax(not as harsh as other waxes). wax it no more than once a month and you should be fine
what does soap do to the hood ? and i heard wax isnt good for the hood, it begins to form wax clouds after a while...but hey if what your saying works then great ! i've also, try to keep it out of the sun...sun spots and i heard carbon fiber shrinks...i think it happened to mine but i dunno...jsut a heads up...post pics !

best thing to do is take it to a paint/body shop and spray it with some clear coat with UV protectant. then it would be as good as a regular metal hood.
If you wax it, it will cloud. I know from experience. I bought a 2nd one and have only ever used soap and H2O while I wash the rest of the car and it is still looking brand new. I've had it for about a year now. If you still need convinceing, my friend got a CF engine cover for his MR2 and the only instructions it came with was "DO NOT WAX".

I guess mine is retarded then...or maybe im the retarded one but mine was cloudy as hell untill I waxed it and its shiny as new.
and its a fiber images hood.

If it has a clear coat on it, then you can wax it. If it doesn't then you probably don't want to wax it. I would check with the manufacturer of your hood and see, or like the guy suggested get it sprayed with a fresh clear.
I don't know how you all be waxin your hood, but waxing the hood will not cloud the hood. We buff and wax the hoods right after they come out of the mold. We actually use a wax based mold release so the part doesn't stick to the mold. I always recommend using 3m or Meguiars mirror glaze on our CF hoods. I also recommend buffing it every few months to keep that mirror finish. There should always be a layer of wax on your hood to help prevent fading of the material and to keep that glossy shine.
Dont matter what you do to it, wax it, buff it. it is eventually going to yellow over time, and or fade. Best thing you can EVER do to a cf part is clear coat it. Bodykitnw has some pimp hoods, and they look even NICER once they are clear coated... You dont have to worry about yellowing after that...
Clear coat, hands down..

The yellowing is actually from a poor quality gel coat. My friend has one of my old hoods which is about 3 years old. One of our original hoods we ever made, and it's still glossy, no yellowing at all. VIS had big problems with this and a lot of other companies because of the poor gel coat the overseas companies were using. They fixed the problem about 1.5 years ago, but I do still see a lot of hoods from overseas using poor gel coats.

If this is true then it IS the reason my first one got cloudy and my new one is still perfect.

I just stopped by today and asked how much it would cost to clear coat it... They told me it couldn't and that they would have to "scuff" it so that the clear would stick.... Does that sound messed or is that true....
