in my 00 Si w/ the OEM airbox you really cant feel or hear nothing..with a AEM shortram you still cant really feel much but its one of the coolest sounds you honda will make when hitting vtec
now w/ the OEM airbox back on i removed the whole bottom piece and it makes a cool low end noise and you can actually feel vtec kick ina little but no loud vtec
its a win lose situation
**edit** buy my AEM shortram from me..its the best first mod for the b16 you wont regret it

if your vtec don't scream then their is something seriously wrong with a swapped motor. or maybe because u have stock piping will make ur vtec not scream!!!! vtec should scream never the less unless you have those 99si those vtec don't scream like swapped motors I don't know why..

i have a jun ecu, and it limits my reving to about 7200 rpm. but i feel alot of power from beginning to about 7000 rpm with this ecu. i like this one. everything is connected properly. i see the rpm rev fast when it reaches about 6000 rpm. maybe my ecu control my vtec at about 6000 rpm. but i cant really hear anything. i have everything stock on the motor. maybe thats why. i have a straight pipe but hooked on a stock muffler. thats about it.
are you sure its not an LS ecu? what is the part number on the ecu. If you have to ask if you B16 is hitting vtec, then its not. B16's are dogs, then when vtec engages it goes like a **** (nevermind the sound, which you should hear, bu you should definitely feel the pull)
A rev limit that low is also a bit disturbing....
Try and run it with a good P30 ecu.

i're tried the p28 chip which gives me unlimited reving. but i lose a little bit of power after 7800 rpm. even though i can rev up to 9000 rpm with the p28, i dont feel as much pull as my ecu. i havent tried a p30 yet. i can see the rpm rise very fast but i cant really hear or feel it much. maybe because its stock. but i'm sure my vtec does kick in because i see the rpm rise like hell! which ecu is best for my jdm b16?
start off with your basic intake and exhaust but figure out your prob first..... unbolt your exhaust like said, you will hear it cross..... intake mani is nothing you should be concerned with right now you will lose hp with aftermarket intake mani's at this piont.....good luck bro.....
thanks for the tip! so at what point should i worry about installing an intake manifold? after i get my basic bolt-ons like intake, headers, and straight pipe? what other bolt-ons do u recommend before i can get to the stronger upgrades?
thanks
thanks

build the cylinder head up by simply purchasing cams/valvesprings/retainers and all that BullShit, then once you get those things then u can worry about a SKUNK2 Manifold, or a Type R throttle body.
good luck with the whole setup tho. hope it works out.

for a stock jdm b16a like mine, at what rpm does vtec kick in?

Depending on what ECU you have that will determine when VTEC kicks in. I have a PR3 ECU and VTEC kicks in at 5,200 RPM, and with a stock air box I can definitely hear the VTEC switchover.

I would get the stock ECU for starters, then send in to http://hondata.com/
and they will work wonders with it.
