why must headlights be taped during autox?
less glass clean up if you crash but no need for it in a auto-x. LOL... imagine w2w auto-x.

I have never in my life seen people tape their lights for auto-x. Road racing, of course, and sometimes HPDEs, but never autocross.

At an autox, you wouldn't.
At a track, you might because it makes glass cleanup easier, as all the glass bits stick together when you bang up the car.

Crack, yeah I've been taping headlights for track events for over 3 years now. Just wondering "why the hell you would do this" for an *autocross*.
But my question was answered here:

Rocks+120 mph = shattered headlights...

I drive to the event with the numbers on the sides. I like to have the car fully ready to run, short of emptying the trunk, the night before a local event. That includes applying all the magnetics and such. I strive to follow the speed limit exactly when the car is "dressed," so as not to attract any undo attention. I do take them off, however, before driving home.

Around here that gets you rather negative attentiont from the folks in uniform. But we don't have an extremely high decal-car quotient so they're not really used to it I guess.
I'd be too paranoid about losing them on the freeway.
