Default gsr/eg - first time at the track...

First time to the track for the machine (jdm gsr in '94 cx) and the first run got me a 14.618 at 95.5mph. Then the next run was the best kill of the afternoon, beat a mustang 5.0 cobra by half a car. My 14.529 to his 14.591.... LOVE IT!! He got a car length on me at the launch and i reeled him in in second, put half a car on him and stayed there.

In 13 runs, my best was a 14.481 at 95.6. I got my best times by dumping at around 2.5krpms. I tried slipping the clutch every which way, feathering the gas, everything. After i figured out that dumping worked better i pulled two 14.4s, then the track closed, so i couldn't try different rpms dumps.

A few things i could do to improve times would be the let some air out of the front tires (had full pressure), get a proper intake and take out an easy 30-40 lbs. (a header - of course). Not sure if i will do worse when i get my butterflies working or not (see below). Spins enough as it is.

I also got some bad launches worse ETs with higher mph (96 range), so i've got to figure out the shift points.

One run i was taking care of a turbo EK hatch; i was looking back to see where he was and saw his hood fly up and wrap around his windshield. Made me miss shift 3rd.

jdm b18c gsr w/lsd in a '94 cx hatch.
usdm p72
2 1/4" custom catback with carsound cat.
Cone filter duct taped onto stock rubber tube.
IAB butterflies defaulted to open
Full interior with spare and jack, jacket, 2 litres of water and me 165lbs
15" konig heliums with 195/50 yokahama retreads (not grippy track tires)

good times man...you should be able to bring them down a bit more...i ran a 9.2 in an 1/8 mile with a stock usdm gsr motor in a 93 cx with the stock suspension.

run some slicks and launch higher. Guaranteed better times. What kinda 60' were you doing with the street tires?

Being the last day for the track this year, they unfortunately had half the place taken apart. My slips don't have 60' times listed. The big time board were down too, which was really dissapointing.

you need to launch in the power band. try around 4.5-6k next time. 2.5k is weak. i cant find the link right now, but theres a thread in the type r forum (i think... maybe it was in the drag forum (but dude has a type r)) about how to launch and drive the 1/4 mile. its very well written and the author definately knows how to drive. i suggest you look for it and read it.

edit: found it: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=635736
sure, its for a type r - but im sure you can learn something.

i read a bunch of launching threads in the type R forum. there's one guy who feathers from 7krpms and get 2.0 - 2.1s. Crazy! I assume they're at full throttle for this maneuver? there were also some pictures of somebody's broken axes from high rpm launching.

Well, i made sure i got the lsd tranny so i wouldn't have to beat on my clutch so much to get a decent launch. I tried a bit of feathering, but nothing too serious. By the time i learn how to do it right i'll have gone through a few clutches i think.

Next year i'll have a suspension setup and i'll let some air out and drop higher. And go from there...

ya a turbo b16 eg got me good off the line with his slicks. He beat me by a full second with a 13.4. He didn't really pull that hard on me after the launch and he didn't look THAT far ahead of me at the end (maybe 4-5 hatch lengths). It would have been a lot closer if i got his launch.

I saw him fart a puff of blue smoke when he shifted into 4rth. I'd never turbo a stock engine

I think this area is around 400' ASL (thinking back to my aviation days)

d

And i should mention that this track is known to be a bit slower than others. The pavement is old bumpy crap. Even still, a stock prelude SH and a mk4 gti vr6 were getting low 15s. Bang on for those cars. Maybe the cool air helped. Sure was fun pulling on them tho.

that's a pretty good 1/8th, i wonder what that would have gotten you in the 1/4. high 13s?

you need an 8.9 or maybe a 9.0 for a high 13.

get a 2.5" cat back exhaust a jdm 4-1 header with a 2.5" collector and a 2.5" in/out car sound cat. That should free you up some more...

Stiffen up your rear suspension and soften the front to avoid bogging if you have any.

Pull out the rear seats/jack/spare/take the tar out if you are up for it. It adds up.

The car should be good for a low 14 if not even a high 13 with good driving IMO.

Oh and i find that 17psi for street tires is best. I was getting consistant 2.1 60ft times.

I ran a 14.6 my first time out with a 2.2 60' USDM GSR in my EH2. The next time I ran solid 14.9's? Turns out I burnt a valve. As for the secondary butterflies wired open...

It may have been a defect with the valve itself, due to it being in cylinder #2. Compression reads 175-175-75-175. With oil in the chamber (test) the compression goes up, so it's not the rings. Oh well, picked up some pistons, a Mugen HG and some ARP rod bolts.
