I purchased a used exhaust, hasport mounts and Comptech header that was running on an 89 CRX HF (w/B20) and I am now using them on my 88 HF (basically same engine) but the exhaust is rubbing at the second bend where the compensator arm mounts to the frame. Is there any differences to the chassis between the two years that would cause this? Everything is bolted up correct but it seems that the piping falls short.
Same thing happened when i installed a GReddy header on my b16. The header pushed the whole exhaust back like a 1/2", just enough to rattle against the fram. I took it to an exhaust shop and they heated up the pipes where the exhaust was rattling and bent them accordingly, costed $18. No big deal.

azroth, I will take a pic today. (Love the avatar, btw. My first car was a 240Z)
Scott, I appreciate the reply. It is not a wise idea to heat up pipe and bend it especially if it is mandrel bent. Bends like the ones done on yours only make the diameter of the pipe smaller and your exhaust diameter is only as large as the smallest diameter in it.

I don't know how finely tuned your setup is, but 10* is not acceptable for me. Besides, this is NOT an issue of bending, but rather extending.

Seriously, your exhaust is not that finely tuned!
I hope we are talking about the same thing, but I was under the impression that your exhaust was hitting near the section where it is like this:
.........____
_____|.....
mid...hit..axle
So if you were to bend the first bend towards the back 10* and the second towards the passenger side 10* it would efectivle straighten and lengthen your exhaust.
I don't know what your setup is, but I highly doubt that whoever made your exhaust spent hours fine tuning every bend on the dyno, on YOUR engine with the EXACT parts you have on it now.

I SAID SETUP... NOT EXHAUST.
I am not heating and bending mandrel bent stainless. I am really not looking for a fix for the problem. I want a why... not a 'how to'. Fixing it is easy (just lengthen the straight pipe an inch), I am looking to see if anyone knows the answer to my original question re: chassis.

I'm sorry I thought you were looking for a fix.
The chassis are 100% identicle, problem area is most likely the motor mounts or frame damage, sorry. The motor mounts is a cheap fix, either your car or the other car may have had broken ones causing the engine to lean. The frame is not so cheap, but good luck.

OK, after wracking my brain I decided to get my mind off it. It then dawned on me... a thicker donut gasket was used between the header and the cat prior to me installing it. I am going to get a thicker one manana and enjoy the silence.
