i wish they had a video clip instead. that way maybe we could see the car fly off the stands and smash into the house.

Then they could put it on "Jackass", and we would all watch someone get maimed on MTV. That would be cool.

for their next trick, they will attempt to do a timing belt job while the motor is running....

just reminds me of a kid i went to high school with years back getting his fingers caught in his motorcysle chain/sprocket while lubing his chain...
i have run the car in gear, but on a lift.... i was trying to diagnose an axle problem. his car is on a hill and his hands are next to a spinning wheel going 40mph or more... just to polish a lip

I've done it and seen dozens of teams - from karts to Winston Cup - use this approach to warm engines and (more importantly) drivelines and to check for problems. Don't you guys get under your cars when they are on stands? Are they that much more likely to fall off when the car is running? Hell, I've seen FUNNY CARS do this and they shake and leap around like nuts...

I was more waiting for the guy to lose a finger or send pieces of his dremel bit into his forehead. Moving wheel+rotary tool=fun for the whole family.

on a hill?
on a hill?
I have done similar, to hand shave tires with a plane.
It was on a dead flat surface, with both stands and a jack under the car.
However, considering the amount of common sense the bling-bling crowd usually demonstrates, I don't think the method is good advice for them.......

it's on jack stands, so I doubt it's going anywhere. doesn't look like it's on any hill to me? guess i just don't see the big danger - probably saved a lot of time doing it that way. oh well
lol, i def. had my car on stands with the wheels off spinning everything up in 5th gear. moment of stupidity. found out i have no speed limmiter tho

That was your first mistake.
RR Forum and Apperance need to be placed at such opposite ends of the main page that one group would never find the other.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Can we put the R forum near the RR/Autox forum, far from the appearance forum too???

I fail to see the big deal... there is not much danger in that technique unless you are an idiot... your fingers don't just magically get "sucked" into the spokes. It's no different than working on a bench grinder or lathe.
when I used to have a supercharged VR6 with 18" one of a kind OZ wheels I would use this technique to micro polish the lip with 1000-1500 grit sandpaper, then I would polish the lip to a mirror shine. Bling-bling!!
Jeremy-who blinged to get some p@ssy...got it...kept it..now dosn't bling anymore.

LOL! Thanks for that bit of humor, Chris. I just sprayed a sip of water all over my CRT and keyboard.
