HPDE NASA Summit Point Raceway
I'm trying to get some more info. About registering to get some HPDE's under my belt. I don't want to miss registration and have to wait till next year. Where do I register and do I still have to pay to get in to the track? This is obviously my first time doing this cause I'm asking so many dang questions. Is there camping at Summit Point or hotels close? How long does it typically take to get through everything to get you comp license? I have gone through a small driving course when I was driving the pace car at Lowe's Motor Speedway so I know a little about the racing and have crewed for friend. Could some people involved in NASA Honda Challenge East please give me some good info. Help Please.

Asking 5 questions at once often means you don't get any of them answered.
[edit] the novice class has been full for a while now.

If you preregister the standard format is that you get your wrist band mailed to you prior to the event. If you miss the mail time then they try to get a list at the gate so that you don't have to pay an entry fee. If you do then you can see the registrar for a refund.
Hotels are close by (approx 20 min from track), Shoneys, and a few others, just look for ones in Winchester, VA.
Camping is available.

ha ha. there is no typical. some people do it in a year or less. some people take much longer, or never do, and just keep doing hpdes. it took me 5 years, including 2+ years as an instructor, before i went for it.

It does say on the nasaracing.net site that registration is open because we have to keep the link open for other groups that are not full. Once you proceed to the actual registration, this is what it says:
"Join NASA-VA and Mach V Motorsports for the final event of 2003 and a special Mach V customer appreciation weekend! Special parking and cruise lap discounts for all Mach V customers. This event features HPDE for all levels and racing for all classes. HPDE 1 and 2 is now closed with a waiting list. E-mail registration@nasaracing.net to be put on waiting list. Only choose instructor option if you are an instructor. HPDE 1 (novice) and HPDE 2 (intermediate) are automatically assigned instructors. Competition school also available (limited to 8 spots), and fee does not include national license fee of $50. Transponders also available for purchase or rent. Instructors needed. Please register by 7 days prior to the event to avoid paying late fee. E-mail registration@nasaracing.net for questions and more info."
If you would like to be on the wait list, please e-mail me as soon as possible. There are currently about 4-5 names on the wait list for both HPDE 1 and HPDE 2. Summit Point and VIR are always full about 3-4 weeks prior to an event since those tracks are so popular. But we always have cancellations, so good luck!
If you have more questions please e-mail me at registration@nasaracing.net!

Here's another option if you're looking to get into something before the end of the year.

If registrar says I'm too late then I'm too late
GC "coilover" setup and some 250f/300r springs going on this coming weekend. KYB AGXs have been on a few months now. I guess it'll hve to wait til February

Ah, well. I'll see you out there next year then. Curious, you had all seasons last time I saw you, did you get something more...worthwhile?
