Default over revved bent valves possibilty

ok guys...tonite i was racing my friend and we both downshift.....i was in the end of 4th and then i shifted to 5th gear so im goin about 125 and i see the light turn orange...i tried slammin on my brakes but then my car starts shaking really hard......i couldnt stop and then i downshifted to 3rd(i dont know why) because i couldnt stop and i thought that my downshift would help me stop.....i then next thing u know the engine is taching off the rev limiter(8300 i believe)....but the thing is...i didnt have my foot on the gas....it was on the brake and the other releasing the clutch....my car is running fine but do u guys think i might have bent valves??

not a smart first post. your going around 125mph in an area where their is a stoplight. I hope your did more then bend valves, you my friend are an idiot and need to be taught some things. I think you need to take a look in the mirror and wonder if you want to wake up behind bars for killing innocent people or a passenger. you get a from me.....

if you hear an abnormal ticking sound, a rough idle, occassional stalling then you may have bent a valve.....

If your idle is still perfect then you're probably alright. Do a compression test if u want to see if you did any damage

Thats a little harsh, i think everybody on this board does more street racing then they care to admit.

You should be fine, I over revved to 11,500 on my stock engine and it took it like a champ.

Don't mention street racing or anysubject that could be viewed as dangerous on these forums, most the mods won't even give you warning, close your post, and doc points. Others will also say the same **** they said just now and call you an idiot, dumbass, etc.

If you have a problem w/ the car, say it broke while you were on the "race track" to get some feedback. post in kill stories about racing though, lots of cool people in there.

I bent a few valves at the track if this helps when my valves were bent i had a rough idle like it was going to die at any moment - throw a cel code for 74 and 72 ( im gonna let you search it cuz ya gotta get used to it and it would die in neutral or if clutch was pressed in - basically overrevving = bad, just dont do it more than accident, once is more than any car should take hehe.

Downshifts do not catch the revlimiter. There is no way to stop that electronically.

1) YOu need to slow the **** down
2) Your brakes are also shot out since your car is shaking violently.

If you're going that fast anywhere there's a stoplight, then you're an idiot, plain and simple and I don't give damn what happened to your engine, as putting the car out of commission and costing you thousands of dollars are the only things that will sink in.
Your ***** need to be busted. I'm sure you'll find a home at ClubSi.

this is kind on a dumb question. lately ive been downshiftin to help slow down for lights and stuff. does that wear out your clutch faster.

Whenever you use the clutch to switch gears you are wearing it down a little. Sorta like each time you use your brakes, the more you use them, the more they wear.

I wouldn't downshift to slow my car down. look at it this way, rotors and brake pads are wear items that can be replaced cheaply. Tranny on the other hand....why take a chance?

agreed, but dosent it also harm your transmission and engine to just let the RPMs fall from a high RPM? I'm not disagreeing to use the brakes, I personaly use the brakes because pads/rotors=150 dollars, tranny/clutch = 150x3
