how to wire up the coil is easy. remove the wires from the coil marked + and - and extend them to the external coil's + and -

as for the cap, just buy an MSD modified cap.

could you run the factory coil with an external coil as well to get a hotter spark?

no, but you can get a high voltage aftermarket coil and move alot of heat out of the distibutor.

how would you go about modifying the dist to take the stock coil out? you would most likely have to get the msd cap set up for it already i take it? is there really that much heat in the dist with the stock coil in there? Would you notice a difference with changing over to a higher voltage coil?

IDK, but I will be testing to find out. The MSD cap is just a modified stock cap, so yeah you can modify it yourself. With the coil disconected it will create no heat.

supposedly old accord caps work fine as external coil caps for d series motors, i have an msd cap and love it. just run the wires for pos. and neg. to the external coil and fire that hoe up........worked good for me for the last 15,000 miles.

I'll try the accord cap. If you look the MSD cap IS just a stock cap that they put their kit on, and I can't justify $40 for it.
