spongy brakes on JDM DA6
hello,
My DA has got really spongy brakes. I've tried bleeding them countless times (using the opposite method to the USDM manual I have, since I'm in NZ, and the car is JDM) but it has no effect. Is there any possibility I'm bleeding them wrong, or would there be some problem with the master brake cylinder? If so, what would need replacing?
I've heard a seal on the master cylinder needs replacing occasionally - would this be likely?
thanks

I would check all your brake lines to make sure there are no cracks or leaks. Check the brake fluid to see if it is dirty. If it is then you might try flushing the brake system, add new fluid, and bleed the system. I would check these thing first before looking into the master cylinder. Hope you find the problem.

so when did the pedal nearly to the floor? when the car was off?
what method can I use to diagnose that my master cylinder is screwed? it's only spongy when the car is running - when its off its pretty firm, does this mean its ok?
my teg has done about 180km's!

ok
I think I know how to bleed the brakes (if you could briefly outline how though that would be good, as I may be doing something wrong) - how would I flush the brake system completely?
TIA

This is how I bleed the brake system on my Integra. I first make sure the reservoir on the master cylinder is filled to the max line. Then Bleed the right rear first by having someone in the car pumping the brake pedal until it is firm. Then the person in the car will hold the pedal and apply pressure as I let the fluid out of the bleed screw. Don't let off the brake until the bleed screw is closed. Let the fluid out and if there is air in the line it should come out. Do this until no more air comes out. then move to the front left, then the rear left, and finally bleed the front right. Remember to keep an eye on the reservoir fluid level. Don't let it get empty. Use the proper brake fluid as well dont' mix it with another kind of fluid.

For flushing the brake system check out this thread. Hope one of these things work for you.

I've tried bleeding them again but they are still pretty spongy. Would the seal need replacing on the master cylinder, or the whole master brake cylinder? How do I know whether I just need to replace the seal or the whole thing?
