Just did clutch install and now car wont go into gear???
Ok me and my buddy just did a clutch install on my car and the car turns on perfect but it doesnt go into gear. The clutch pedal is very mushy. We have bled the line many times with very little results. Can the slave cylinder have gone bad?? Any advice or help is appriciated. TIA
no its not,
the clutch disk will hit the flywheel if its backwards, and you would never get it in there like that...
if you have a mushy pedal, then you probably still have air in it... tell me how your bleeding it exactly.
I have seen a brand new clutch psi plate have a manufacturer defect and it too felt like a mushy pedal and was not able to go into any gear, but that was a Clutch Net POS, and when I pulled it back out everythig looked perfectly fine, so I went and got a clutch kit from O'Reilly's and stuck it in and it was perfect! I hope this is not your case, most likely its just air in the lines.
Did you replace the flywheel? Or did you have yours turned?

I have a new fly wheel too. The way I was bleeding was, I had a friend inside pumping the clutch and I would tell him to hold it in then I would open the line and then close it. We have done it many times, It got a little stiffer but still very mushy. Also when we were installing the salve cylinder back on the tranny the piston was all the way out and the push rod was just dangaling in the lil rubber boot it has. After it was instaled I opened the master cylinder and the fluid was very black, when before the clutch install it was the normal clean color. What can this mean??? Thanks for the replies
Thanks for the replies. I just took off the slave cylinder and its not bad. The problem is that the release fork is about 1/4 inch away from the end of its travel. I will post a pic. I think the problem is the pressure plate fins are in so by the time I hit the clutch pedal and the throw out bearing touches the presure plate fins, it runs out of room. I am think two things right now. Either the clutch disk was installed back wards, or the Presure plate is bad. Now I assembled the stock set up back together and saw that there is only one way to place it between the flywheel and the presure plate, which is the hub with the thickest part facing the pressure plate. Looks like the tranny is comming off again. How can I tell if the pressure plate is bad??? Is it even possible for the clutch disk to go in wrong? I have a act prolite fly wheel so i dont know if the center of it is deeper then the stock so there is a chance the thick hub side can fit there? Please help. thanks.
Measure from a spot on the flywheel that is the same between your stock and the new flywheel to the spot on the pressure plate the throwout bearing presses against. Do that with the clutch assembled to the flywheel. If you get a different measurement between the two, disassemble the new one and check for proper assembly. Try swapping between the new and old pressure plates and clutch disc. Remember that the distance measured there is what is needed for the release arm to reach. It can be a bit of a pain to measure each time, but way easier than pulling the trans a few more times.

I just figured out wtf happened....the clutch disk went in wrong. How the hell that happened i have no idea. After reviewing the pics i took of the install, I noticed the disk was placed wrong so when we bolted the pressure plate on, the fins were pushed in because the disk is spaced out. Do you guys think the presure plate will be ok? No choice but to drop the tranny and turn the disk around. What do you guys think? Thanks for all the help guys.
I would say to look for damage to the "fins" which are the spring that gives the pressure to the pressure plate. If they look OK after taking it apart, I'd give it a shot, if you don't mind possibly having to take it apart again. If you want peace of mind, replace it. Check the hub section of the disc for any damage too.
Alright, I mean the car hasnt moved an inch because I cant get it into gear. So the clutch has 0 wear and I am hoping it is not damaged at all. Thanks for your help.
Ok maybe the clutch is right then and the pressure plate is bad. I have a action 1ms clutch kit which i bought from ks motorsports. I need to take care of this asap so im wondering if I can get a new pressure plate like quick, and then just send the bad one back and get credit. What do u think?

what happen to your stock pressure plate use that until u get your new one
Im using the same clutch, I found that the engagement point is VERY high up. Basically doesnt engage until the pedal is almost out. Havent bothered to adjust it, have found I can actually shift a little bit faster because of the position.
I called action today and spoke with them. They were very helpful and were willing to help me.
The guy was telling me that its possible something is wrong but the only way to find out is to ship it out to him so he can test it on a machine. I will start to take the tranny off tommarrow. I would rather wait to have everything right then to use the stock pressure plate and then have to take everything apart again. I cant even get my clutch to disengage so There is something wrong in there. The clutch line has been bled over 20 times and the shift fork goes all the way to the very end of the housing. We will see what is going on once I take off the tranny... Thanks for your replies.

Well I figured it out. THe clutch disk was on backwards....had to drop the tranny again to fix it. Its working good now and im breaking it in. My clutch also grabs really high, I thinks its like that for racing purposes. So far so good.
No Im running a sprung disk. The clutch I have is a action 1ms. It feels good, the only thing it grabs right at the top of the pedal. I think its like this for racing purposes. Correct me if Im wrong? Also someone posted on this thread they were using the same clutch, is yours the same way? I have it matched up with a act prolite fly wheel. I like it so far but im trying to break it in before I put it to the test. Does anyone know how much hp the action 1ms holds?
