how can you tell a 4th gen prelude si or vtec apart????

 

Open the hood and look at the valve cover and see if it has a huge VTEC on it.

 

lol ok just by lookin at the outside of the car how can you tell if its a VTEC or SI?

 

Under Prelude on the *** end it says DOHC VTEC if its a Vtec. Other than that they are the same on the exterior. The interiors are different though.

stock wise-

vtecs came with sawblade rims and has vtec on the trunk

 

i'm not sure on the rims, cause i think they changed for both si and vtec on different years...
on the outside it's tough to tell other than the vtec sticker

 

Read the VIN number off the dash JHMBB1= VTEC JHMBB2= Si

But with the amount of swaps out there I would open the hood.

Not true. 93 VTEC Preludes and 1992 and 1993 Prelude Si's BOTH had the 7 spoke wheels.

In 1994-1996..BOTH Si's and VTECs came with the sawblades.

The ONLY way to tell the difference is that they say VTEC on the back externally.

 

the sawblades rims is totally unture, sisa cames with them too.....easiest way to tell from the outside is the size of the rotors

 

you guys can't forget about the the special five spoke wheels with the painted insets

i can get that on ebay for $50

 

Or you got people like me that remove the DOHC VTEC sticker and be a little sleeper for the SI preludes, or a stupid RICER Civic that thinks hes fast.

So yeah open the hood!!!!

 

Vehicle color car narrow it down also. VTECs only came in Azure Blue Green, Milano Red, and black or grey or something. I think there were only 3 colors.

There are MANY posts about this ..... please search.

 

jhmbb1 on the vin number
the 3 stock vtec colors(depending on year)
brake size.(if you are really good with your eyes)
the middle speaker in between the rear seats. otherwise known as the "vtec sub"
leather seats of course.(it might have been a dealer option for cloth. but everyone i've seen is leather)
the motor/tranny.
all 4th gen vtec's are 5 speeds
etc. etc.

 

94 Vtec's and on came with standard leather interior.

some of the si's come w/leather interior too like mine
i have also seen the v-tec's in a champagne color too

 

The ones I've seen has DOHC Vtec under the "Prelude" emblem on the trunk. Mines says Electronic 4WS - Bummer!!!

 

in the 93, you can also look at the tach, the vtec's redline is higher, but from 94-96 you gotta have the key in to view it. and all vtec's come standard with a spoiler.

 

i have an si with sawblades...

 

Check for rear brake light. All VTEC Preludes came with wing spoiler with the brake light integrated into it. On Si's, the wing was an accessory and would still have the brake light on the rear deck.

93' vtecs have the same set up as the 92 Si..
