Ok, heres the deal. I am looking for a Prelude VTEC right now, there are NONE for sale around here. If I just settled for an SI, I would have 2 grand to play with. I really want a VTEC, but I am wondering if I do end up giving in and getting an SI, will I be able to make it as fast or faster then the VTEC with 2 grand? What should I do?

I agree. The Si isn't a bad car though, it will feel slightly more torquey than the VTEC but the topend isn't the same.

Travel a little bit to get a prelude. Hell I traveled over 700 miles to get mine in TN and I live in NY. Get a friend and take a road trip. It'll be worth it. Check out autotrader.com thats where i found mine. You need a VTEC just like

I drove almost to Florida to get mine... Trust me, the Si's are nice, but there is no substitute for a VTEC. Hold out my brother!! Hold out!!!!

Just have patience. Cause if you buy the SI, there may all of a sudden be a Prelude for sale, and then you are going to hate yourself for buying the SI

Yeah man. Hell, drive across the whole country for VTEC. It'd be a damn good road trip.
A buddy to drive ya or fly there with priceline.
Edit:
Err uhh did I say that? It'd be pretty damn boring to drive two cars across the country with one driver in each... but if you can spot airfare for two a road trip in your new used VTEC would be romatic with a chick...

Yeah, the road trip thing actually sounds sorta fun. But how would I be assured it was a good car? Who could I have look at it? I am just scared I'll drive/fly somewhere far and then have it be a piece of $hit. Oh and my price range is somewhere between 9-11k...more towards 9 would be better. So yeah, the main concern would be: how would I know its a good car before I drove or flew clear to where ever? Yeah, so keep giving me your ideas....I WONT settle for an SI. I drove one tonight and it sucks compared to the VTEC! Thanks guys!

Yeah, well another VTEC just went for sale. It is a black on black 93. It is in MINT condition and runs great. It was driven by a 42 year old women. It has 104k miles though and they want 10500 for it! Bluebook is a little under 9000...I am gonna try and talk him down to 9000 and if not the 9500. What do ya'll think?

Don't ever pay more than blue book unless it has mods. When i got my 98 in TN i flew through priceline.com... The thing is priceline only sells round trip. What i did is I bought a ticket that left the same day that i arrived. So if the car wasn't to my liking i would have just left. I had the owner take a lot of really good digital pictures so i could get an idea of what i was getting into. Couldn't have turned out any better. good luck

im gonna go out on a limb here and tell you from experience that a SI will run with a vtec.Particularly if you mean drag racing.Bone stock mine ran 15.2 while other vtecs were mid 15.I know this is not the case with all ludes. With 2000 to play with and some help you could get a head package from JG and play with vtecs all day long.My all motor Si runs mid 13's and is not even tuned or finished. One major advantage to the vtec is parts aval. It has more support than the 2.3 Just wanted to stand up for the non-vtec crowd and definitely not dissing vtec.

Yeah, well I found one....its a 93 VTEC lude. I am getting it for 9400 with 100k miles on it. It was driven by a 42 year old women, who was the first owner. I am getting it tommorow, I am sooo stoked. So thanks for all the help. Oh and the guy only lives about 20 miles away from me. THANKS! I am sooooo glad I chose the VTEC, and it was your posts that helped me not get the SI, I am SOOOOOOO glad I got the VTEC!!!!!!!

Good job man!! Now, don't ruin the car!! No riceboy body kits, non sponsored stickers, don't slam it so the tires are in the wheel wells, and take care of it!!

Well, I have had both an Si 4WS and now a VTEC. My Si had some mods and was fast. It handled great too. It was no VTEC though. I had an Eibach Pro Kit, 17's, and strut baces and it still did not handle as good as my stock VTEC. Also, the brakes are poo. I repeat, the brakes are POO! Drive an Si, and then a VTEC just to feel the brakes. You will really notice what I am talking about. For a car as heavy as a Prelude, you really need to extra rotor size from the VTEC model. Oh yeah, my stock VTEC is faster than the Si too. Granted, I only had Intake and Exhaust, but it is still noticably faster.

check autotrader.com it will tell you alot of where they are but yeah I had to drive 200 miles to pick my up. This was almost two years ago I got it for 10k with only 50k miles on it. Yeah the vtec is worth it but lots of people say the h23 bottom end is better then they just put a vtec head on it. If you have all that money why not just go for a b20b conversion with a type r head on it in a civic hb.

all and all I just like the way the vtec kicks in and thw whole world changes.

My friggen brother found a 95 Vtec for $16.5k with only 16,000 miles on it. Came with intake, and exhaust. I'm so jealous. Car was mint. Deal of the century.
