Default Revving to 8000RPM on stock internals in a del Sol

Yeah, I got my JDM H22 put in a while back, and the shop that did it said that I have no rev limiter (and I don't) and that the highest I should take the motor is 8250 RPM. I am taking it to 8000 RPM max, but the question I have is whether this RPM is too high? I have taken it that high numerous times and nothing has happened yet, but I am just wondering if it is going to be OK.

I know that sometimes the Prelude engines can give off a higher RPM reading then what the actual engine speed is, but I am using the del Sol Si gauges, but with the Prelude ECU, so it will show revs up to 8500 RPM on my gauges...so are they inaccurate or dead on? This shop that did the swap said that my gauges are correct, that nothing is going to happen as long as I don't rev past 8250 RPM...so is my motor going to be OK?

what ecu are you using? That's what determines the rev limiter. You should really get a real rpm guage.

revving to 8000 is okay I guess, stock fuel cut is 7800, but you have to realize you're making peaking power at 6800-7000 going much further than 7500 is a waste of speed. You're faster shifting.

That's the thing I think that they are using the P13? But the rev limiter is gone.

I thought it was 7600??? Looks like 7800-8000 on the stock tach.
MSD has a nice 2 stage that I will be using....

That's weird...has it been chipped? Chipped ecus are terrible anyway.

But your peak hp is 6800-7000 so going past 7500 is pretty useless on a stock block.

chipped ecus are usually just a burn of a standard program and is not tuned for your car at all.

A hondata you go to a hondata tuner and have it custom done for your car. Usually the Hondata is a piggyback unit in addition to the stock ecu.

Yeah, they did the programming themselves, which I assume means that it is chipped. But I am assuming that by going to 8000 rpm indicated by my tach is not going to destroy my engine now is it?

I mean, I have been shifting at about 7800 rpm anyways, because that is right where I feel that the engine is losing too much power and I just shift.

I would only go to 7800 in first to stay in VTEC, other than that I would be shifting at 7500 in every other gear.

It's up to you, but we both know shifting at 7500 rather than 8000 is better for the engine no matter how you look at it. It won't blow up at 8000 be it will wear somewhat faster.

Well...thanks for the re-assurance satan_srv...you always seem to be a really good source of information on these boards. And your advice on the shifting points was really good, I tried it out today and it felt a lot better than revving just a bit higher where the power really drops. I can't thank you enough.

As for the chipped ECU, that won't be for very long, when I get the Skunk2 Stage 2 cams and valvetrain as well as some other go-fast items, I plan on getting Hondata immediately. Until then, I guess I'll use the chipped ECU. I suppose that the chipped ECU may be the reason why my exhaust is backfiring so much when I let off the gas real quick, either that or it is the fact that I don't have a cat.
