Default Got a CTR piston question???

I pulled my motor appart and I found what I didn't want to find. My block needs to be bored and honed, and I figured it would be a good time to go with JDM CTR pistons, since I'm going to have everything appart. Just curious about the spacifics. Compression should be around 11.1:1 with an OEM head gasket. What about my rods? I have heard you have to grind 1mm of material off each side of the rod in order to fit the JDM pistons. Is this true? Anything else? Thanks for the help

i have never done this setup. i assuming you are using CTR rods with CTR piston in B16 Block. I pretty sure it should clear. If is doesn't just have a machine shop that you trust take off some material to clear. The head should clear no problem. If you are using just stock honda Camshaft i.e. CTR ITR or gsr camshaft. Other camshaft skunk2 or other high lift longer duration you might want to check for piston to valve clearance.

The CTR's will work fine. Yes 1mm off each side on the piston side of the rod so the piston will fit over the rod.

About 11.1:1 - 11.4:1 Everyone has a diffrent idea on what CTR's are in a b16.

They are cheap, not cheaply built but cheap to buy. A very good idea in my opinion.

Thanks for the info snowseeker.

In a nutshell, here is my setup.
B16 block
B16 crank
B16 rods
JDM CTR pistons/rings/pins
GSR head (mild port, valves/springs are Skunk2)
SI cams (don't ask)

It's a combonation that came about due to some odd circumstances, and over a long period of time. I just pulled my motor out tonight and I'm tearing it appart tonight. How much should I expect to spend when I take the block to the shop and get it bored/honed? I'll let ya'll know when I get it back together and running .

thanks for the posts again

you may as well balance the bottom end while you've got it apart, and install new bearings. Don't leave anything to chance, as I'm sure you'll be harder on the new set up.

Around here it is around 20.00 - 25.00 a hole for boring. Not sure by you. Hone is usually included.

Ok good. So I'm looking at about 100-150 for the bore/hone. About 350ish for JDM CTR pistons/rings/pins. I'm going to do the rod grinding myself (I have an extensive precision machining background, just not the right equipment to do large motor stuff). I think I'm going to do OEM bearings but the $$$ for the ballance just isn't there. I'd like to ballance everything, and shotpeen the rods, but we'll see what the machine shop says. Anyone know prices for hot tank cleaning???? I just wanna make sure I have no s**t in the motor cuz I don't want to take it appart again. Thanks for the help guys. for all.

to balance the rotating assembly (crank pulley to pressure plate) it was only $105 at the shop I used. it is highly recommended you do it. its cheap enough to wait untiul you can afford it too!
ACL bearings may save you some money to affored balancing

you can balance the rods and pistons yourself if you'd like. Its not too hard.
The wrist pins and rods should be weighed on a postal scale and grind material off the bottom of the rod untill they all wiegh the same. Use a porting tool to take a little bit of material off the inside of the piston and do the same thing.

You should be able to get CTR pistons off ebay for around 175.00 - 225.00. I got a few sets off ebay for 200.00 came with pins and honda rings.

You know what. I have a extra b16 in my garage right now with CTR pistons and CTR cams in it. Ported and polished head. Port matched intake, and balanced. If you are intrested I would trade you my motor for your motor plus give me 500.00?

Just a thought.

Motor has 4000 miles on it.
