Just looking for a round about cost to rebuild a B18C1. Nothing big basicly I need to change my rings.
I will be doing this in my garage with the help of a friend.

And add if you take off the head, add on the price of new headgasket, and head studs. I don't know if the oil pan gasket is reusable, but i would get a new one of those also.
edit: forgot bearings also, ACL? nice and cheap

Do you have to change the head studs or is it just recommended or is it very recommended. I know I am about to get flamed for this but I am very short on cash and I have to have this done and up and running before the 7th of Nov. The most I will probably be able to come up with is $500.
headstuds can be torqued 3 times before failure is an issue, so you could re-use yours.
oilpan gasket may not like being re-used but it can be done.
headgasket, I'd use a new one, they're $50 from LEN at Baranco Acura or BERT-O at Gettel Acura
rings, about $100 from either of the above
rod bearings you may be able to re-use if they look okay and show no signs of wear. But a rod bearing set like ACL's from camp1320 are under $50 and fit all sizes except the largest and smallest possible combos of rod and crank sizes, most peoples cranks/rods are in the middle sizes so you might make out with a set of ACL'
honing the cylinders to seat the new rings is required! a hand honing tool for a hand power drill is $30 at most auto parts stores. see if you can borrow one but check the stoned for wear if it is used... and maybe buy new stones for $10 or so.

Not even close.
add:
headgasket
oil pan gasket
etc.
Might be a good time to do bearings, t-belt and water pump too.

Thanks I will look into it. I am trying to stay under $500. the headgasket I will change as far as the oil pan gasket well it depends on its condition but it will probably get changed. The bearings is something I was not sure if I could reuse or not. I think I will ship the head studs this time but will change them next time. To the best of my knowlage the motor has not been taken apart. I got it second had with 15k on it and now I have almost 70k

What did he do just change the piston? I could probably just change the rings I need to but the problem is this car has to be reliable. Its my primary vechicle.

you got it. Even used the rings that were on there....
He had a spare block, and I had a deglazer already. Thing ran like a champ untill he tried to run the nitrous through it again. This time he smoked every piston, turns out he forgot to put the jet in.

An entire rebuild with new pistons, new bearings, the works can be had for $1000.
$500, on a semi-ghetto rebuilt will be good to go.
New rings, T-belt, Water pump, head gasket, oil pan gasket, ARP head studs if you can afford them (OEM head bolts if you can't) and that'd be around $500. You'd have to do the work yourself, and if you don't have the tools you'll have to buy a ring compressor and deglazer; those will be another $50 or so.

He just said he wanted to change the rings. So add in a new head gsaket and oil pan gasket so $150. Then. Still pretty close. I'm just saying if he wants to change the rings then buy new rings. That's all he asked.
I originally only wanted new rings and I spent $1963.09.

Ok if I'm hoping to have a little more than $1000 saved up by next Jan to rebuild. Can someone give me a list of things I should look into? I'm pushing 162,xxx on my '96 B18C1.

machine work to bore / hone your cylinders, then pistons if you bore, rings (may come with pistons may not), bearings, water pump, oil pump, timing belt, head gasket, and with that many miles I would change both valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket as well as the rest of your belts.
Well in the past few weeks I have learned alot about my car.

I'm sure you will. Get a book if you don't already have one and take your time (do it right the first time) and you will be fine. If you run into any snags post up your questions and I am sure someone will help you. If not send me a PM and I will try to help.
