Two inch Harness at track events
Ignoring safety for a moment, 2" belts are also very uncomfortable. I had 2" belts for two autocross days before I ditched them for the 3" belts. This was long before I needed a harness for safety.

Just curious, why should you not use 2" belts?? I understand that 3" are the better and the safer belt to use but isn't a 2" with sub going to be a lot safer than just using a stock belt. (putting flame suit on)
i would imagine so, i think it has to do more with how strong the belt ( width ) is when it comes to the momentum straining the belt fibers during the impact or rollover.

Alright, I said "ignoring safety," but you asked. 2" belts will stretch more than 3" belts under the same amount of force. Belts are supposed to stretch a little, but this is assuming you are using the FIA safety regs. are designed around the stretch of a 3" belt. Also, 2" belts cannot distribute the force over the same are that a 3" belt can, meaning that your body feels this force over a more focused area (focused force = bad). Finally, how many 2" 5/6 points belts do you really see? They're actually harder to find. Most 2" belts are 4pt. So, as far as safety goes, once you have invested in a cage and a fixed back seat, you don't stand to save much money in an inferior belt that's not even legal outside of autocrossing.

I don't think there's going to be a whole lot of reliable research to answer this question, because the standard is 3" belts. And OEM belts have way more crash testing data than any of the harnesses.

I got a set of the 4pt sparco clubman belts 2" (for $50)
the belts are made by TRW, who make OEM automotive parts.
I have to belive that this harness will be safer then the OEM, Because
1. there are now two shoulder straps. instead of one.
2. The amount of mounting points, and straps so the force can be distributed much better, to the car and around the body.
but still not as good as a 3" harness
Just my two cents.
