Default Metal shims needed on brake pads?

I changed the rear brakes pads on my Integra week. However, during the process of removing the brake pads, I damaged the metal shims on one of the old pads and couldn't reused them on the new pads. The new pads didn't come with new shims. Anyway, I installed one of side the brakes w/o the metal shims. Is this OK??????????????

Nah, you don't need them, but your brakes might squeal a little (more). If so, just get some high temp brake silicone (I think the Permatex version is called "Disk Brake Quiet" or something like that) and make a layer of that stuff between the pistons and pads ... nice and quiet.

Like they say, they arent necessary. I am not running them, and my brakes can get pretty squeaky sometimes. I will put some on next time, but if you damaged one and cant reuse it, I wouldnt worry about it.

Yeah, I installed the pads with only one side having the shims. The car brakes fine & thanks for the help everyone.

Just a word of advice to people thinking about doin the rear brakes, they are a lot harder then the fronts. The fronts were a piece of cake but the rear were such a pain in the ***. No wonder shops more for the rear then the front brake jobs.......

For some reason my rear pads had fitment issues and I left the shims off as that was the only way I could get the to fit, never had a squeak. I ran spoon front brakes on my S2000 for years without shims and never had a squeak, my new wildwood big brakes don't use shims on their pads, should be fine. I do lube the sides of all my pads and the piston contact surfaces, you do need to use proper lube.

my ebc greenstuff pads had a terrible fitment on the rear brakes , the only way I could get them to fit was to run them without retainer clips, I always have fitment issues with EBC pads on Hondas for some reason. I didn't have an issue by not running the retainer clips, still worked fine, no noise or anything. I don't recommend it but it can still work.
