Just received my 2nd block. Can these problems be fixed?
During shipping the block suffered three blows.
1. The ridge along the edge of the deck has a 1 in. long piece missing from it. I'm hoping that welding some material to this area and having it evened out will fix this.
2. The top of the sleeves(H22A4 open deck block) have gouging on them. This should be irrelevant because of Benson's sleeving process correct?
3. There is a 2mm(.078 in.) gouge on the deck surface just outside of the waterjacket. It looks like somebody took a nickel and hammered the edge of it into the block.
.078 in. sounds like a hell of alot to mill off of the motor, but I could be wrong. This is where I really need yall's insight. I have $500 worth of shipping insurance on the block and the rubbermaid tub that it came in had a hole in it that I could stick my hand through. Also there was absolutely no packing material in the rubbermaid box. Would this void the insurance?
TIA

Go buy packing material. Pack it really nicely take pictures of the packing material, the hole and the damage. The don't know what the packing was like until you take pics
The limit for deck warpage is .10mm, but that's not the same as shaving the deck.
If you're replacing the sleeves the curent condition of the ones in the motor doesn't matter.

man i would be so pissed.. i would think that since there was no packaging that the company that sent it should have to pay for a NEW one.. but hey thast logic and that usually isnt how it works out
My main concern is to find out how much I can shave off the deck.
Edit: I just called UPS to have one of there insurance inspectors check out the package. Wanna place bets on whether I get screwed because there was no packing material in the box?

How can you be screwed if you didn't pack it? That's the shipper's problem so they should take it up with them. I hope you get this worked out. Keep us updated.
Wow! That really sucks. Who did this wonderful packing job? I just got my block back from GE. It had bubble wrap, and ply wood securing the inside of the box on all four walls... Very impressed with there shipping method...
I think UPS is going to point the finger at the shipping person...

I agree. I use FedEx for everything including my block.

Hell, if I have to get another block I'm picking the damn thing up in person.
