Default bad TIAL wastegate??

my friend has a tial he bought used and it appears as if it is stuck open... his car runs zero boost and the TIAl is is always letting exhaust out of the manifold. we took the wastegate off and took it apart and the spring seems fine we even flipped the spring over and still the wastegate sticks open. there was no screw in the top when he got it and we thoght maybe that was causing the spring to stick opne so we put a screw in the top and still it sticks open, any suggestions?

do you have the little stainless ring that the TiAls are supposed to be run with? This "seals" the wastegate. w/out that, youll leak all over...

After removing the WG spring, can the plunger/vavle move freely? Or is bound up still?

thats odd...if it indeed is defective, this will be the first one that Ive heard of. start w/the ring, and go from there...

Yes it moves up and down freely, also the ring i think your talking about is the orange part inside the tial that is still good, when we push up on it whne the spring is out it has a little suction to it....

The orange ring is the diaphram, as long as it is not torn it will be fine.

without the ring u see a nice gap. part of the ring is what seals or in your case might actually close it. the gap being like 1/8 inch or so.. if that
