broken oil pump picture, all motor ls/vtec
If anyone is interested the oil pump went, its broken in about 20 pieces.
I was able to get 2 passes before the oil pump went both were 12.3 @ 106 mph and the last pass where the oil pump went was 13.2 @ 100 mph. after i shifted to 4th gear i noticed that the oil pressure warning light was on and i turned off the motor right away.
Is it true that if the oil light comes on while full throttle and high rpm the damage is already done and its too late? I have checked all the bearings and I dont see any problems. I will check the cams and cam caps later tomorrow to see if there is any damage up there.
Btw. I also tried the edelbrock intake manifold for this past weekend and I dynoed a tuned 190whp and 128wtq compared to 197whp and 137wtq with the stock type R manifold, the loss of power and torque in the lower rpm range was far greater than the peak losse. I'm dissapointed with the edelbrock intake manifold. I was aware that I would lose power before 7000rpm, unfortunatly it lost a **** load of power everywhere, piece of junk. I guess ill keep the manifold for when I have a turbo CRV as a tow vehicle later in life.

The oil light come son at some rediculsly low number i think, somthing like 5psi
Thats why i run an oil pressure gauge

yes i was using a light weight crank pully, it does not have a harmonic balancer.
but also last time at the track my flywheel came loose, so that might have damaged it before also.

sounds like you over reved you oil pump gear, the stock oil pump gear can generally only handle up to 8000rpm, how high were you reving? either way I would switch to a pro-drive one.
ive never heard of a overrevved oil pump. sounds like u got ur info from fast and the furious.
how bout u show me some info about overrevved oil pumps breaking and when i tear down my motor ill show u a oil pump that doesnt see anything under 8k for the last 2 yrs. its the shockload of the launch that breaks oil pump gears.

are you still using a stock VTEC oil pump?

i read the link, its a tough call, ive seen posts about the subject several times and i see both sides of the story, which is true and which isnt?? that i cant answer. i use a CTR crank pulley which is pretty light and have had no issues. other than that its up to u to decide.
