Do you have an electronic speedometer? If you have the cable one the cable may have broken or maybe even come off from the tranny. If it's electronic it could be the speed sensor or something is up with your cluster. Hope this helps

Speed sensors are in the tranny.

i drove 90 years with out mine working
it should be a cable speed sensor.
(i doubt you have to replace it, maybe you were working on something near your tranny and it popped out ??!)
but some where near the bottom of the brake cylinder master thingy-ma-jigger ( it looks like a big microphone plug ) should be a cable line feeding from the dash to the transmission. look around it might be hanging out. ( if your standing in front of the car ) find the plug and look towards the back of the tranny ( closest to the firewall ) and there should be a place where the plug should plug-in. when you find it stick it back in and you're good to go.

hoped i helped more than confused

i imagine its a cable speedo, unless he changed it. but check the rear top of your tranny that is where the sensor is located the speedometer cable should be running to it, be sure that the cable is all the way in the sensor. i would pull it out and put it back in to be sure.

if the cable is still in the sensor you could have either a broken cable or sensor, im more inclined to think it would be the cable just because i have heard of cables breaking more than the sensors

I had this problem about 2 months ago. All I did was push really hard on the speedo cable and I almost fell face first into the vlave cover when the cable snapped into the tranny. All I did was push really hard and snap! After that its been working fine!

took cluster apart, and found the speed cable . routed it to the tranny side... took that clip off, and voila... cable is snapped. i twist it, the other end doesnt twist.. i pull it, the other end doesnt move... so it is snapped.

thanks for ur inputs. gonna need a new speed cable
