Default Detrimental effects of leaded fuel?

So I'm looking at this: http://www.jacksonautomachine....nId=7
and notice that C12(108 octane) costs roughly the same as unleaded VP 103(99 octane). So if you aren't running a cat does that mean that the only thing that the leaded fuel can mess up is the O2 sensor? Is there anything else that long term use of leaded fuel can damage on the car?

Yeah, leaded gas will only mess up your cat and O2 sensor. I haven't heard of any case where leaded gas has hurt a motor. Good question though. Bump for a great question. Maybe someone with more experience and years of racing can give us all more info on leaded gas. Personally, I only run it at the track and I only run unleaded on the street. I wish I could run unleaded at the track, but some of us have no choice when we're boosting a lot.

leaded gas is actually good for the motor from what i have learned supposedly it cleans deposits of the valves and well thats all i know for sure no need to speculate but yeah i would think other then emissions bs leaded is good for your ****

the lead in the fuel lubricates the valve stems, but is not good on the o2.

I always thought the leaded fuel breaks down valve seals over time or at least on the ones in newer cars?

actually the new gas we get at the pump breaks down the seals in the motor because it contains ethynol witch is a alcohol , and if you know any thing bout alcohol in motors it dries out the seals so u need to change the oil sooner , leaded gas is good **** but causes alot of emmisions so they banned it from street use and went to the new **** that i call swamp water for gas and put alcohol in it to make it run at all ...

I got 2 o2 sensors for $30 so not to worried about them. Will you get a CEL once your o2 sensor is gone??

Ok, one other question. I go through about half a tank of gas(8 gallons) a week. How quickly with the key ingredients in the fuel evaporate out of the tank enough to cause the octane to lower significantly?

I wouldn't worry about it evaporating in a week espeacially with the gas cap left on i doubt you would lose more then 1 octane point.

out of curisotiy what kind of setup are you running? you might be able to get away with mixing gas and it will be cheaper for you.

Most of the guy's I race with are runnin' 112 octaine, but we're sittin' at a little higher compression too. That darn domestic stuff! LOL

It's a work in progress. I'm trying to figure out how much fuel will end up costing me before I go out and buy pistons. Basically, it will be relatively mild NA build with enough nitrous to get into the 12s. Right now I'm looking at 11.5:1 cr.

you would be just fine mixing gas with the compression you will be fine 2 or 3 gallons of cam2 with the rest of your tank you will be fine.
