Brake upgrade optios for a 2000 Civic EX
Ive just ordered almost everything I need for my upgraded suspension, and I'm going to start looking into improving my car's braking capabilites. What are some of the different options in terms of brake upgrades-disc brake conversions. I have seen various posts abot swapping out for the Si's discs, and the integras discs. Can anyone enlighten me on this topic. I plan on putting on either 16" or 15" alloy wheels in the future if that makes any difference.
Do you have plans to autocross in the future? If you have plans to develop the car for autocross you'll almost definitely want 13" race wheels (unless you choose a street tire class). ITR brakes are out of the question. As far as I know, Panasport is the only company that makes a 13" wheel that can fit over GSR brakes, but who wants to pay $300+ apiece for 13" wheels? ;-) IMO, Civic Si brakes with good pads will provide plent performance. Someday, you may have to go with a set of brembo rotors in case the stock ones warp, but that's after a lot of hard use. My stock rotors are just fine after 3+ seasons of autocross on race rubber. Results can vary on this though...
hey deceitful
what upgrades are you doing to your suspension? i have a 2000ex and the first things i was thinking about were suspension mods. could you give a breakdown of what parts you're getting?thanks

Thanks for the reply fsp31! G-love, I have the neuspeed coilover kit which you can get for 799 shipped right now on their website, they are height adjustable, and come with threaded Billstein shocks. I have just ordered the Neuspeed rear sway bar, front upper strut bar, and rear lower tie bar. These, combined with some sticky tires should give me plenty of traction/handling on the street. I think neuspeed is a reputable company. They have answered all of my questions via E-mail, and I have heard great things about their products. Some people complain about their service, but I believe that is because they ask technical questions to the salespeople who obviously can't answer them. I know when I called their toll free number, I asked a question about their products, and the sales guy gave me the wrong info because that is not his job. He was just trying to be helpful, but obviously doesn't know what he was talking about. I have yet to install any of my parts, so I cannot give a personal review, but have heard only good things about the quality of their parts. Start improving your Civic's suspension first, that is the car's main weakpoint. Everything else should come later IMO. Peace.
Hey, I noticed your sig is from Houston. I'm just a little north of you... I'm pretty familiar with Houston's SCCA autocross scene. It's a really strong region if you're interested. Their website is http://www.houscca.com/. They have a LOT of well set up (and well driven) imports at every event. And, everyone is really friendly. Sounds like your car is 90% setup for autocross already. Now it's time to set up the driver, but that's the fun part. ;-) BTW, the Neuspeed/Bilstein setup sounds like a good one. Take it easy.
fsp31, I might take my ride out to autocross everynow and then, but I can't beat her up too much cause she's all I have! Anyways, thanks for the info man, I'm going to check out the website. So does anybody know the best way to go about a rear disc break conversion for a 2000 civic EX? Are there any dealers selling conversions? Is it better to do an Si conversion over an integra conversion? Should I go the junkyard route or what. Just lookin' for a little bit of guidance!
you dont need any brake upgrade other than some pads & fluid.. maybe some steel brake lines. anything else is a waste of money.

If you are autocrossing, you cannot change the size of the rotor from stock, or you are in the Modified classes. There is an update/backdate rule, which would allow you to put discs on the rear, and upgrade to Si rotors in the front, but that is it. No integra brakes will be legal in anything but Modified. Hope that helps your decision process.

That's true. I was thinking "street mod" when I answered his questions. Can't recall exactly but I think he may already have a few mods that take him out of SP.
