Default transmision, clutch, shift linkage? what's wrong

Ok, help me out guys. I need to call the shop where my car is and decide whether or not I need them to work on it.
I was driving home the other day from work on the highway cruisin' along at around 70ish in 5th and all of a sudden the car starts to slow down like I'm coasting. Foot still on the gas, rpms still up there. I pull over to the side of the road to check it out and now when I put the car in gear and rev it up and let of the clutch, I get nothing. The car is a running paperweight now basically. I can pop the car in and out of gear easily without depressing the clutch so I'm wondering if it's just my clutch that's gone? Seems odd that just going down the road it decides to let go though. I was in a small fender bender a few weeks ago (i hit someone) and thought maybe it could be the shift linkage as in the car isn't actually changing gears when I move the shifter around. I've tried all the gears including reverse and nothing.

Let me know what your best guess is or if you have any ideas on where I might want to look myself. The guy at the shop wants a $250 deposit in case it's the whole tranny before he's even going to take much of a look at it (which is bullshit I think but I've worked with the guy before and trust his work) so I was hoping you guys could enlighten me on what it might be.
Thanks a ton!
J

Yeah I bet it's the clutch. If you can shift gears and it feels normal but you're not moving, then yeah it's definitely clutch.

Thanks for the info. We're gunna go hit the garage in an hour or so. Lets see how inflated his prices are for a new clutch!
Thanks a ton.
