h23 rod/stroke ratio
I recently heard that the rod/stroke ratio on an h23 is too high for boost to be run safely on stock internals. There any truth to this? Maybe someone can clarify or confirm.
Where exactly did you hear that the h23a had a high rod/stroke ratio from? Theoretically on a street car, you want right around the magical 1.75 rs ratio. Keep in mind though, the best ratio is the one that makes the best use of the cylinder head for a given displacement.
One of the main reasons the prelude motor is not a high reving motor is due to the fact that it has a low rod/stroke ratio... and the crank is not the strongest one in the world either. Maybe that is what your source was trying to tell you. But that's ok, because due to the rod/stroke ratio's and our displacement is where we get our 'claim to fame' torque from.
I can't find my manual right now so I cannot give you the actual rs ratios, but i assure you they are not high. I believe they range from 1.49 to around 1.6 possibly for either h22a or h23a. Both are different, it's late and I am about to go to bed so dont chastize me if I am slightly off on my guesstimate.
Anyways, now that we have that out of the way...
H series motors kick *** to boost. The weakest link are the stock ringlands on the pistons. I would not boost above 8psi on a stock block though. True, firedrake runs 11psi on his stock block... but rumor has it he has 2 spare spoon H series motors laying around his garage with t66 turbo's and 2 big chrome bottles of nawz laying around. Plus, he likes to dance with the devil
