cut springs? is it worth it......
ok... sorry,. guys if you havent noticed my questions are kinda noob.. but hey i just got my car. im trying to learn so please bear with me and your advice is read thorougly and carefully. my buddy has some cut eibach springs i think he said they were 2.75 . but he cut them to 3.25. he said he would just give me the springs for free but i m just thinking about buying some new adjustables for about 80 bucks.. what should i do .? i mean if anything . should i buy the springs or should i just get the cut ones for free. but please tell me why having cut springs on your car is bad for you ..i would like to know thanks.
Cut Springs=
Uneven Camber
Tires that wear uneven
VERY poor ride quailty
Blown shocks (eventually)
HorsePower and handling aren't free. You can't cut springs and run open header on a stock car and expect any type of gains. Anyone who knows anything about cars will label you a dumbass because those "mods"(?) hurt your car more then they help. Search and read some old posts from this board, learn about your car before you ruin it with these riceboy modifications.

From my experience (10 years of cutting springs in hondas/acuras), most aftermarket springs can take 2 cut coils and still ride a lot like uncut. Each cut coil lowers the car about 1/2 an inch more. Ask him how many coils he cut off.
Im also pondering this. I have H&R Race... but I want it lower without sacrificing handling. I was thinking about cutting 1-2 coils off. What do you guys think?? My friend had neuspeed race with about 2 coils cut and the ride was still pretty damn good.

Cutting a dead coil off of a spring only makes it a little lower. Cutting an active coil off of a spring does the same, but it also increases the spring rate.
Now let's ask the question: why is it bad to cut springs? Because it wears the shocks out, making the ride very bad, and very bouncy, which reduces performance. Okay now why does the ride get bouncy after cutting springs? Because the shocks wear out, which happens because the cut spring not only makes the shock operate outside its intended range, but ALSO the cut spring is effectively stiffer, making the shock work harder and eventually wear out.
For all intents and purposes, cutting your springs (stock ones anyway) is just as bad as installing good aftermarket lowering springs on stock shocks, at least that's what I believe.
This brings me to believe that if you have a good aftermarket shock that can handle a lower ride height and increased spring rate, a cut spring should be fine, provided that you can get the height even on both sides of the car, etc.
No I'm not condoning cutting springs, because you can usually get better stuff w/ higher spring rates, etc. that have not been cut for relatively little money, but it's just a theory I have.

Bro to ask should I run my stock integra open header and should I cut my springs are terrible questions that could be answered by using the search button (upper right hand corner). Like I said before LEARN ABOUT YOUR CAR BEFORE YOU RUIN IT!
well...in my opinion, cut springs are bad. those springs were engineered to be a certain height and density and you wouldn't be using the springs to what they're meant to be. you can ride them for awhile, but you'll eventually have to get shocks or just a coil-overs. i suggest tein. haha. GL to you
