Default 02 Civic Si

The new Si will be 2.0L. Will it be easily able to tuned up to let's say a Rsx Type S? Because it's the same engine. How can you make 2.0l engine faster w/o forced induction? cams? will that work?

I think the new Si's look like a total P.O.S.

Rumors has it that the 2002 Civic Si will share the same engine as the base RSX. Now somebody please correct me if I am wrong, but I am under the impression that the base RSX engine and the RSX Type S engine are mechanically different.

Yeah, the base RSX engine is quite different from the type S. Does anyone know the engine codes for each. I heard they are both K20A's; is there a numerical suffix that seperates them?

OK let me clear this up for everyone. The Civic Si will not share the RSX engine there is a bout a 12 lbs of difference in torque (they do both have 160 hp). Honda has K20’s in 5 of their new cars and they are all different. Even the RSX-S engine and the Civic Type R are different even though they both have 200 hp. I don’t know specifics yet. I do know this the new Civic Si is one heavy muff hugger. The Type R in Europe and Japan weigh 2645 that’s 75 lbs more than the ‘01 Integra Type R, nonsense. I am curiouse as to what is going to be capable however it is a 2.0 starting point and they will have a heartier block (mad boost).

If your referring to the Si, it will definitely be here in early 2002. The Integra Type R is strongly rumored, and was said to be in 2003 by Road and Track. The Civic Type R… not a prayr…

Yeah, i can't wait for the NEw SI.. IT's going to be TITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But no one answered my questoin still?
How can I make it faster?
Like, 1.6L Si gave 160.
2.0L still gives 160? If i do my math rite, it should get about 200. How can i make it stronger? and faster?

Greater displacement does not always mean greater horsepower, most frequently it means greater torque...

For instance. an Integra Type-R is 1.8L and gets 190hp Honda Prelude is 2.2L and gets 190hp. Difference is that the Prelude has more torque. I could get the exact torque difference but I'm too lazy...

Right now I can only assume. It could be as easy as new cams and a computer, don’t know. But as a generic answer there is always going to be the normal bolt on stuff, chances are it will have more of an effect (minimal) on a larger engine.
As our confederate friend brought out, Increase disp. Usually adds torque, (wich does make your car faster) not necessarily hp. This is one of my gripes with the Si, I cant believe at this point in time Honda would put out a 2.0 with only 160 hp, in an Si I mean, its not like it’s for LX sendan or something, oh well. You won’t have to wait long. There are going to be aftermarket parts up the black hole for the Si three months after it’s released if not before. Turbo, Superchargers, Cams, everything…

spyder is absolutley correct. An increase in displacement opens the door to power increases, doesn't necessarily mean you'll see it without work though. The B18C5 and H22A are indeed a great example. Both offer a peak of 195hp (99-01 Lude was listed as 200hp) but with the 2.2L Prelude spitting out 156lbs of torque at a rather low (by Honda standards) 5250rpms, while the smaller 1.8L in the ITR could only muster up 130peak lbs at a lofty 7000+ rpms!! Indeed size does matter, but it's still how you use it

thanks for the correction on the numbers...I have a bad memory And I hadn't thought about the differing RPM for the peak numbers.

That sorta sucks. bolts on add like NO hp. intake, exhausts are for show. they hardly add power. real powre like turbo or sc's cost too much, i was just wanting a cheaper, yet safer (than turbo) way to boost. thnx guys

If you are very careful with your installation and tuning, and if you drive intelligently and don't try to do the impossible, then it is perfectly safe. What happens with blown motors is these kids go throw a N2O kit on an otherwise stock car and decide to run the nitrous solid until the tanks are dry, or they run the engine into the rev lim with the nitrous on. You have to keep the same things in mind with a turbo, just use your head and don't let yourself get "caught up in the moment".

Why is everybody doggin' the new Si? It's represents everything classic about Honda. Look at how popular the hatchbacks are with the aftermarket crowd. The interior looks great, its got big weels, and more torque! Did you hear me? A HONDA WITH TORQUE. I think they are great, and Honda is smart to introduce them here. It's all about marketing and Honda is going to sell the **** out of those things. Only thing is they're a bit pricey for a hatch, but then again look at the VW Golfs. Now that's overpriced.

i love the new SI, the only thing i don't like about it is that it has those u gly o' shiny rims.. Do you think theyll come out with those? I was hoping for something like the 99-00 Si's. Those alloy rims rocked... these news chrome looka ones are gay and do not match the car well.. i wish there was a way to write to honda. also they should change their wheels to the 5 bolt. less theft. this hatch is goign to have his wheels jacked frequently. even with wheel locks. peace out
