V-tech Engine Noise?
I got a 93 Civic EX coupe (auto transmission). Today when I started the engine after parking the car a couple hours at my college parking lot , I heard some clicking noises from the engine. I thought it was the noise of the fan belts, but after lubricating them the noise is still there. I thought maybe it's a leak of engine oil causing the engine noise, but I checked the oil and it's nothing wrong (just changed my oil). Anyone know what's wrong with my car? I suspecting it might be the timing belt though.

Before I forgot, the car has 130,000 miles on it. But it drives smooth even the clicking noise is there. I didn't feel any sudden changes in acceleration and handling, it's just the noise. Quite loud.

No, I just don't know how to check the valves. I'm completely new to cars (just got my license and car). If it's the problem with the bent valves, will it damage my engine without fixing it? What's the cost to replace those valves? THanks for your input anyway guys.

Spoon Guy is right it was not offered with V-TEC...it's VTEC people, v-tec with a hyphen is a 900mhz cordless phone
As for the clicking noise well it's not rod knock for whoever said that...rod knock is not a clicking noise...it's a KNOCKING noise and it's loud and it's obvious, cannot be mistaken for clicking or bent valves how can you make such a diagnosis clicking valves don't always mean they are bent, out of adjusted valves might be it but also an old timing belt will make a clicking sound it is the slack that is now in a stretched out belt causing it to flex at the top as it spins making a slapping or "clicking" noise...when was the last tune up done...do you know when the timing belt was last changed? Should have been changed at 90K miles...when was the last KNOWN(known as in you had it done or the seller showed you reciepts of work done, being told work was done is not knowing) tune up, you might need a full tune up, and if you don't know when any of these parts were replaced(cap, rotor, timing belt, thermostat, water pump, spark plug wires, spark plugs) I suggest replacing them. Also while getting that tune up yes have the valves adjusted properly, and have your timing checked...if that timing belt is old your timing is most likely way off also.
What a tech forum is that the best advice you could give the guy was check your valves??!?!!?

Re: V-tech Engine Noise? (sickguy)
Not to hard to adjust the valves, but if you are totally new to the car thing I would say take your car up to the dealer. Should be like 60 bucks or so to check and adjust the valve clearances. If you are friends with anyone that can do it get them to do it if they really know what they are doing, checking the clearances is really pretty easy, just kinda tedious.
I'm not sure how much the valves would cost you to replace them if they were bent, but I suspect you may as well get other stuff done if indeeed the engine is in that bad a shape.

Nope, the D16Y8 is 96+
They use the D16Z8 (my bad) which is still SOHC VTEC

And its Vtec, not Vtech. As pointed out earlier, V-tech is a cordless phone.
