Default Why is my gas mileage sooo bad.......?.....

From my last post on gas mileage it is obvious to me that i'm getting bad gas mileage. i get maybe 220 miles per 11 gallons, mostly highway driving. also, i've determined that my car is definetely running slow too. my brother's 2000 prelude beats me by 2 cars by 80 mph, even if we switch drivers (equal driving skill b/w us, both stock cars). someone told me the car feels like a GS-R in terms of power.

i bought the car used a few months ago on the spur of the moment and since i never drove a stock type r, i couldn't tell at that time it was running slow.

i'm killing myself trying to figure out what's wrong. i already replaced: PCV, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, and had the valves adjusted. the stupid dealer said it's my clutch, but it's not slipping at all, and other people confirmed its working fine, even a performance shop that sells clutches.

so, what could be causing me to have bad gas mileage and run slow??? (my next thought was fuel pump....?)

any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks!!!

What do you mean you bought it on the psur of the moment? Did you not get the car checked out before you bought it?

If the car is under warranty take it in. Or, you can have one of the FL We-Todds check out your car

Get it on a dyno and see whats going on with youur power output and what your a/f is.

A good tuner will be able to see more then you think.

Good point. Also consider taking it to get fully inspected by someone who knows what they are doing.

i agree...that's good advice
you should really check if you still have any type of warranty left on your ITR
btw, do you know if the previous owner did any modifications before you bought it...

check the tire pressure.

seems obvious but it will dramatically reduce MPG. If you already did this then disreguard this as an idiodic comment.

I get that kind of mileage, too...

It doesn't bother me... much. Of course, I'm on it all the fricking time... and I'll putt around town at 5000rpm rather than upshift.

you have any buds that work on cars?
you burn any oil?
maybe you should have someone check to see if a previous owner
swapped the cams out for gsr cams or something...
other than that compression tests would be cool..
