Help I think I killed my friends tranny!
He has a ex coupe with an apexi turbo kit and this was his first time running slicks at the track. He made about 6 passes dumping the clutch at around 5k then he let me drive the car. I made 2 passes the first one i missed 2nd gear and the second pass i missed 3rd gear i think. When i was coming around after the 2nd pass I stopped and the car would go into every gear except first. So he drives the car most of the way back and comes to a light. First gear works now and he shifts to second and it is now stuck in 2nd gear. His shifter seems really loose compared to my crx so I thought it might be the linkage but that might just be normal for those cars. Anyone have any thoughts?
its not linkage, but maybe something inside the trans. that has to do with the gear selection. Or maybe just the clutch? Maybe you broke a spring in there so it kinda works, but not totally.
is it completly stuck in 2nd gear, will the shifter move all around and not change gears???

hehe.........you busted the synchro spring ring in second gear and likely the 1-2 shifter fork. I drove home in second gear for 22 miles.
Replace 1-2 fork and second gear synchro.

The same thing happened to my gear missing rsx-s friend. It got stuck in second gear with only 12,000miles on the car. Dealership gave him a brand new tranny.

bones, good info. i have a ys1 tranny with a bad second gear grind, i knew(drove) the tranny was good before i put it in my car so i think it's the shift linkage! where do you buy replacement synchros for honda trannies, other than the dealer? thankx!

I get my D series synchros from Aceomatic-Recon.
But the changed the design a little bit, not sure if they are compatible now.
I've got some B series spare parts, not sure of the condition of the synchros. I was given 4 B cable trannys with exploded diffs.
