Default I have never ported what is it like.

I have always gone with the small sealed boxes. But I have to say that I am lacking that feeling that you get in your chest at cocerts when the bass drum hits. I have 2 15's with 1200w RMS running to them with 31mm xmax, so I think the displacement is there but I was thinking that maybe porting would be the way to go. I want clean punchy bass, not loud as sloppy, I want to feel it in my chest. Right now my seat vibrates %80 and I feel %20 pure sound waves.

If you have never heard a big sub ported, you are in for a good surprise The problem is you have 2 15's. I doubt you will be able to build a box for both that will fit in your civic(I am assuming you have a civic). What subs do you have, eclipses?

Anyway, if you decide to build one for experimentation, try a single tuned low. If your sub is 31mm xmax one way then you will need lots of port area, so put as much as you can get in it. My 15xxx box that I am building has 70 square inches or port.

It's going to be hard to get tight punchy bass out of a ported enclosure let alone a ported 15. If you want alot of tight bass look at what the recommended small enclosure is for your subs.

i've gotten "tight" punchy bass out of my e15k ported setup.

and if anyone wants tight bass out of a sealed box, you'll want a big box. smaller box are no-no if u want low-end extention and good transient response.

Im not sure if the Xmax is 1-way or two way, but the foam surround is like 3" thick, two is truely too loud, I have never maxed them out. I am looking for the feel in my chest. maybe Eclipse makes SPL subs and I am looking for SQ subs. I have also never heard a JL sub either and I hear that they are SQ centered. If you could recomend a sub for me to hear ported which would it be.

Why? What do you mean my tight and punchy? Is a larger sub less tight and punchy, or does the box make it that way?

yah it's "aiight"
till it gets stolen from you lol...

anyways..vteg made me a KILLER ported box for my W7 that USED to be sealed.
ported i loss no SQ...didn't have to run so any bass boost ported...
and it felt/sounded like i had 2 or 3 sealed 10W7's when it was ported versus my old sealed setup.

With ported you don't need that stuff anyway

by tight and punchy I want a sub that you feel, porting makes since, more air displacement with less volume. THat is really what I am looking for a sub that when I turn my highs up it does not overpower and block out thier sound, but I still want to be able to feel it and have it contribute to the system. W7 huh, some guy at my school said he has two W6's for sale for $400 But I think it's BS, plus I really one would want one sub, and W7 is the JL top of the line right? XXX I'll look into that.

Correct me if I am wrong but I am looking for a SQ sub, that i will port right?

Sorry that was intended for the other guy. I was just instigating a little

Too many people regurgitate what they have heard and have nothing to back up their old wives tales. Large subs are not slower and less "tight". Everyone has a different definition for tight. Some use it to refer to transient response, an advantage that sealed will always have. Some use it to refer to the midbass hump you can get from small sealed enclosures. Regardless sometimes we have to seperate the facts from the fiction.

Anyway, if you want to feel your bass tune it to the low 30's, and you will become a believer
