long rod setup
what is the advantage of making your motor a long rod setup? i've seen in arias piston,s they have these holes on the top of the pistons, it is meant for exhaust gases or something. i was wondering who knows what that is meant for.
the holes actually allow some pressure to get in behind the rings to help pressing them agains't the cylinder walls.
The advantage to a long rod setup is that if you keep the same stroke, your motor will be much more comfortable in the higher rpm. The sacrifice will be low end power.

Are you referring to the raised wrist pin slugs some of the companies are producing nowadays for the B18B? If so the idea is to move the pin up(as well as the rings) and utilizing slightly longer rods to improve the rod to stroke ratio somewhat. The only downside I've heard suggested is that the rings could be somewhat more prone to wear since they're now nearer the combustion area.
I beleive long rods/Raised wrist pin pistons are good, better powerband, less stress on all bearings, slower piston speed, and some other stuff here and there. But you don't want to raised the wrist pin too high where it touches the oil ring, or your pistons be higher than the deck. unless you're going for something more like full race setup or super high compression. (remember you always want good compression with a decent amount of clearance for valves to pistons)
I'm guessing the little holes that you're talking about are call "GAS PORTS"
with gas ports the piston rings would seal better and of course you'll gain more HP with that but with gas ports the piston rings would go out faster also.
