Just Got my b16
Okay, I just got a b16 in my 91 civic, She seems a little slow at low rpm's.. I havnt taken it to v tec yet, are v tec motor's generally slower in the 1000-4000 rpm's range compared to the old d 16? Also my car seems to shake a little.. like vibrate more than it used to, but the rpm's stay constant. Why is that? Finally, my engine is LOUD compaired to the d16, like I cant even hear my muffler ne more, is this generally the case on dual cam engines?. Thanks
p.s. Im
loving
the beeeeeeeee 16 thus far!

Well the b16a doesn't have a lot of torque in the low rpm range but I don't think it should seem sluggish. Did you do the swap yourself or did you have a shop do it? Most likely the vibration is from the motor mounts since most likely an aftermarket swap kit was used. DOHC Vtec engines tend to be louder than a sohc depending on what kind of intake you are using.
Well I just finished my B16 last week. Let me tell you how mine runs. Minus the fact it's hitting the front cross member (hasport kits, shifting linkage, axles) it runs like a bat out of hell which worries me. I've taken down modded hatches, acura CL, preludes, integra's, Civic's with GSR swaps and I'm seeking a Type R now. It has awesome pull low end, it has even better pull in V-Tec. I do have the Y1 trani with LSD. I have a custom 2.25 exhaust, custom cold air intake, short throw short shifter and that's it. Oh and stage 2 clutch. but other wise not enough to make that kind of difference. So I'm gonna do a compression test and what not to see what's up. I think the guy in Japan did some stuff to it. It's quick. To quick. I've played with a couple of low 14 second cars and manage to pull them by half a car length. Other than that I hope this helps. Sorry for the whining.

Don't be afraid to rev that motor, it is meant to rev. You gotta rev the hell out of that motor if you want to get the most out of it.
It is vibrating more because of the motor mounts, which mounts did you use with the swap? It shouldn't be loud at low RPM, it should get louder when you hit VTEC though.
It shouldn't fell sluggish in the low rpm range. Did you do a tune up since the motor was put in?

had mine for about 2 weeks and yeah its louder than normal but not really when your in the low rpm range. it does sound beefier to me than my dx of course. it screams when in vtec though. my car shakes a tiny bit but not really a lot, its mostly my damn left headlight, havent figured it out yet but in no way should it feel sluggish or anything especially compared to the old motor you speak of.
I've found B16s are generally slow under VTEC range.. when i had my D16Z6, i would ALWAYS beat B16s off the line, through 1st, and through 2nd, but then third gear VTEC and that extra horsepower and rev range caught up with me.
Like the other guys are saying don't be afraid to rev the b16. I used to take it to around 3500-4000 around town. The vibration is probably due to the aftermarket mounts. I always hated that but then again I had es master set and motor mount inserts. Yeah I remember really being able to hear the motor too, my rex wasnt very quiet after the swap
yow your b16 should shake like that because when you do the b16 swap, you'll only use 3 mounts, and usually the mount bushing are made of polyurathane so that is why it shakes heavily. if you don't knwo what polyurthane bushings are they are really stiff bushings. the first time i got the car back and with the b16. my car rattle like a ****!!! but now after a year, the bushings are starting to give a little so it doesn't rattle as much or i got use to the shaking.
as for your low end power, VTEC motors don't give you that much low end torque, if you wanted low end torque should've went with a GS or an LS or something that motor has more torque (b18b). like everybody else said, that motor must rev!!! hehe, you'll enjoy the vtec when you put it in from 2nd to 3rd at WOT!!!!!
good luck..hope this helps.
