Default Anyone ever do this to their Distributor?

My friend is a very good tuner and asked me if I wanted ot bump up my compression? I was like how? well he unscrewed the distributor and moved it forward. It sound stupid but it did raise the compression and I have better low to mid ranger power and torque. Anyone else ever do this? Or am I just stupid?

It just advanced your timing. Hopefully it is not set too high and making your car ping.

Because you have to use a timing light to make sure the timing isn't advanced too far. Stock is 16 +/- 2 deg. BTDC, so you should not go more than 18 or you risk detonation.

Supposed to warm engine up, then jumper the service plug, then whip out a timing light and rotate distributor Backwards towards the firewall to advance timing, not forward. Tighten bolts, recheck timing, take the jumper out of the service plug, then turn engine off. done

dam i just did mines over this past weekend and i didn't do it with the engine on *crosses finger*... my cousin just unbolted it and twisted it back and was like "there total 18 deg timing" with no timing gun!... he said i must run 91+ octane so it won't ping

well if he moved it towards the front of the car, then he retarded the timing, and I don't think you want that.

i thought going to the front bumper is retarding the timing and going to the firewall is advancing.
