ITR vs S2000?
I am thinking of selling my ITR and buying a s2000 within this month. I just want to make sure that I am not making a mistake. I like to drag race at the track, but they say that the s2000 has a weak differintial. But it was also said that the ITR was not for drag racing.. My question is, Is the S2000 a better car overall? If not then I am not going to sell my ITR.
Thanks everyone

The s2k is a better handling, faster car than the ITR, but if you mainly are looking for a drag racing car, neither would be a good choice. Go with some american muscle like the new svt cobra or a turbo supra.

A good launch on the S is at 6k rpm, any thing less it bogs down. The stock clutch can't handle too many of those. With an after market clutch you risk differential damage. I had I/H/E and I can't honestly say my car was any faster than stock.
Everyone here could trade their ITR for a S2000. Maybe have to come up with $1-2000 more. Yet noone does it....
I know a few people with S2000's, and most dont praise it like ITR owners praise their cars. I usually hear its hard to launch without either spinning the wheels or bogging, that the rear end comes around durning hard on ramps, etc.
Neither car is good for drag racing, but you can get a ITR into the high 13's for $3-4000. I dont know, but I bet it would cost a lot more to get a S2000 to do the same consistently.
Also, contrary to popular belief, the ITR handles better, and brakes faster than the S2000.

When it comes to drag launches, RWD ownz FWD cause the weight is transferred to the driven wheels instead of away.

From what I've seen, latteral acceleration for a ITR is .93G's. For a S2000 is .90G's.

You would think so. You do have to take into account drive train loss with the rear-end. Not to mention the low torque, and extra 300lbs the S2000 has. From what I've seen, S2000 owners seem to get mid 14 second 1/4's. About the same as a Type-R.

S2000 is a faster car then the itr down a straight line road... but a convertable car can never be as stiff and lite weight as a close roof car.
that's why the itr doesn't even have a sun roof.
But my girlfriend wanted to trade in her Audi A4 for the S2000! Now that i don't have a problem at all!!!!!!!!!

s2k just to get ahead drag racing? you can do much better with bunch of other cars.. or integra alone.. although don't expect great results from honda without spending some good cash.. - you can turbo your itr and get like 260-280whp which will give it decent results in 1/4 mile, but it will only be the average among fast cars.. or the bottom of fast cars.. to be decent.. you'll need to build your engine, and more cash comes into play..
now.. its not all fun and games with other manufacturers.. they got their share of problems too..
in general. i'd take supra over s2000 anyday.. 600-800whp on stock internals owns.

I beg to differ about your comments. Although in stock form the S2000 is slightly faster.
You are obviously biased, but I'm sure we all are. Have you ever driven an ITR? I've driven both and while the S2000 is fun, the ITR has the edge in my book.
Stopping distance from 60 mph:
S2000: 118 ft.
ITR: 114 ft.
Anything else I can clarify for you?

Back in 1997, the S2K hasn't come out yet so the relevance of that article is
Check out the Topeka Solo2 results....fastest ITR in D stock was 118 seconds, fastest S2K in B stock was 113 seconds. Both cars were using Hoosiers.

Here is my opinion on the subject.
In terms of producing faster lap times around the track the S2000 is the better car with equal drivers in stock form.
In a drag race a stock S2000 is faster in both ET and trap speed than an ITR.
So it looks like the S2000 is hands down the better car right? IMO not by a long shot for MY (<<<please notice this) needs and preferences.
1. I don't like convertibles.
2. I can carry a passenger and a full set of tires and tools in my ITR to track events and whatever else if needed. This isn't happening in a S2000.
3. In terms of strait line power the ITR can easily overcome the S2000 when it comes to aftermarket support, especially considering the S2000 doesn't respond very well to basic modifications. My ITR when it had only intake and header ran times and traps faster than 99.99%(if not 100%) of the stock S2000 times I have seen posted. That's enough proof for me.
4. There is a larger data base of info considering our engines have basically been around for over a decade (B series that is).
5. The car is cheaper to purchase and keep good tires on (due to the size). Important when you are replacing tires 3 times a year like me.
6. It's the underdog.
Both are awesome cars, but for alot of us the ITR suits the daily driving/track needs and finances of our usually young age group better.

Well said Active Aero. I agree with you, esp sentiments about not liking convertibles and the lack of storage space vs the Rs hatch.
I test drove a used 01 S2k a few months ago, and while it was fun to drive, I didnt enjoy it any more than my ITR and I didnt like driving it with the top up at all. By the butt-dyno, it did not seem any quicker than my ITR with I/H/E.

Well from a road racing perspective...
Last year when EFFECT had his "street" s2000 which was stock w/ Tein RA suspension & A032R, he was chasing my ITR around the track, maybe .5 second slower. ITR was ~2350 lbs. I/H/E @ Tein HA's on Victoracers. This year both cars are fully caged, and both on RA1s. I am about the same weight and his new S2000 racecar is lighter by a couple ~200 lbs. Motor is still stock, same suspension. Now he's got me by a good 2 seconds
I think the difference at this point is fully adjustable suspension (to which the S2000 is extermely sensitve) and of course RWD. Cars are pretty even in a straight line (ITR w/ 4.785 FD). We'll see how it pans out next year when the ITR has the benefit of adj. camber and I finally set the damn thing up.
Maybe I'll add a post after this upcoming Speedtrials when we swap cars.
P.S. stook brakes are ******* stellar.

You just spent all that money modifying your R and reporting your dyno info/findings on here.... now you want to sell? If it is because you didnt like the results you got, that isn't really a good reason to sell. Maybe a better tuner or something. Seems like a terrible waste of money, cams, internals, tuning, then just dump it and buy another car that isn't suited for drag.
Just my opinion... I'd decide what the hell you want out of a car before you go sell your R and buy something else.
And another thing, if you want a drag car, why a Honda? Honda != good dragging.
