Heat resistant bandage around header
I've just put on the Toda header, and I noticed that it gets very hot compared to the stock one. Since I also have the J's Racing (Rubbing
) Intake I'm concerned about the temperature getting too high under the hood. So I'm planning to buy some heat resistant "bandage" to wrap around the header to get the temperature down.
Are there any disadvatages doing this??? Like combustion temperature will rise causing detonation, or the rest of the exhaust getting hotter etc? Any thoughts about this is appreciated.

Just goes to Show you how effective the Stock Heat Shield was. The CF J's Intake will be fine Just that you are ingesting Hot Air. Heat tape will work to keep the heat inside the headers but sometimes this has an adverse effect and cause Heat stress fractures in the Header.
You would be surprised how much the engine Bay cools down when the car is in motion.

Yeah, it's that the intake will suck hot air and loose power I'm concerned about. I've heard that the cat-back may heat up a lot when covering the header. That makes me wonder if the combustion temperature inside the cylinders also might get affected by this...??

it can't. i welded mine twice. but, i still continue to wrap it because it works.

What is your intake rubbing on?
I never had a rubbing problem with the intake once I convinced the a/c lines that they needed to move down into the engine bay a little bit to share space and be 'team players'. Those a/c lines took a lot of convincing!

I have no AC, but the intake rubs on the plugwires and the wiring to the left of it.

Header wrap will look like major *** in a few months.
You won't be able to easily get the wrap on without removing the header anyways - so why don't you get the header ceramic coated instead??
Ceramic coating is much more effective than wrap and will last a longer too.

A should be 150-200 bux (or less).
Most powdercoating places can do this service for you now.
I had it done locally in Canada for 200. In Norway - it will probably be more $$

Does this coating cause heat stress cracks... the heat tape seems to cause cracks which require welding.

No - ceramic coating changes the heat absorption of the metal i.e. it will not heat up as much. Thus the exhaust gases retain more of their heat as they pass through the pipes and they will flow better.
Because the metal isn't heat cycling to extremes as much - it won't crack!
Tape actually makes it HARDER for the manifold to cool down once it's heated.
With ceramic coating - the opposite is true - it cools faster.
With ceramic coating - underhood temps will decrease A LOT! I don't have to leave my hood open at the track anymore - even after 20 min of WOT.
Because the metal isn't heat cycling to extremes as much - it won't crack!

wow. Well I planned to perform this coating during the winter months when the car is stored and I can take the header off....
